Ahmed Bahr: Whoever relinquishes the right of return is a traitor [ 14/05/2008 - 05:06 PM ] GAZA, (PIC)-- Dr. Ahmed Bahr, the acting speaker of the PLC, highlighted Tuesday that the right of return is sacred individually and collectively and cannot be abolished by prescription, adding that whoever waives this right is a traitor and beyond the national line. During a session held by the PLC on the sixtieth anniversary of the Nakba (catastrophe), Dr. Bahr held Britain historically responsible for establishing a Zionist entity on the Palestinian lands through issuing its fateful Balfour declaration in 1917. The acting speaker called on all Palestinian people with their different orientations to unite in the trench of resistance especially after all alleged peace agreements and negotiations proved to be a failure. For his part, Abdelfattah Dukhan, the head of the PLC's committee on refugee affairs, stressed that the conflict in Palestine is not between Muslims and Jews, but between Palestinians (irrespective of their religion) and Zionist occupiers. At the end of his speech, Dukhan tabled a number of recommendations, most importantly that the right of resisting occupation is protected by heavenly and man-made laws and that the right of return cannot be compromised no matter how long it goes on. For his part, MP Mohamed Al-Ghul said that the security council and the UN are no longer faithful to the rights of the Palestinian people which were usurped by the Israeli occupation, pointing out that more than 43 US vetoes had been issued against the legitimate Palestinian rights. Different lawmakers emphasized during the session that the Palestinian people's right to their ancestral land is historical and cannot be derogated or replaced by resettlement or compensation.
