The Belly of Moloch

a Poem for Palestine

After the Bombing

By Kristen Scott

Al-Jazeerah, ccun.org, May 3, 2010

And, the bombs keep coming

diving exploding dividing

 the moon with phosphorous

splaying children with flesh

eating burns –

Israeli attacks never stop

ripping apart  the   bodies

searching for those

missing from  their latest head counts

they check off schools, zoos, factories

now all cramped graveyards smelling

of dead flesh  and animals.

there are too many  Palestinians

to bury - - too many to count,

will anyone be left standing?

will anyone remain to tell

the atrocities to their children’s

children.

What will be left of Palestine

salty tears   muffled

ancient cries of Hagar

mothers whose throats are raw

as wounds   crying for help

tired dry fists  that pound like

punching bags on the backs of Nations

Nations that will not turn around - -

their faces are towards Zionists

with handshakes

money reading

 “In God We Trust,”

while Palestine’s children burn

into their great melting pots

Into the belly of Moloch
