World Peace and the Vision of US Immigrants

By Muhammad Shafique and Shahid Comrade

ccun.org, May 8, 2008

The Pakistani-American community in the USA is deeply concerned about the lack of interest on the part of current US leadership to solve serious economic problem prevailing in the country. Millions of families are suffering due to this negligence. The American people are at loss to understand this neglect. They are also very concerned about the present image of USA in the world due to violations of human rights in the country and abroad by the present administration as several people are suffering in jails or deported without due process. The Pakistan USA Freedom Forum, therefore, appeal to entire civil society to strive for the restoration of civil liberties and rule of law to restore prestige of USA. We strongly believe that:

1.       The sacrifices of the men and women of our armed forces are praiseworthy. Many immigrants have joined the Armed Forces to defend USA and we salute their patriotism.

2.       The Democratic leadership is failing in its responsibility to respect the mandate of American people to stop the Bush Administration from meddling in Iraq and other countries. The wishes of American people must be respected to stop this unnecessary meddling and all troops must be brought home immediately.

3.       The violation of civil liberties of people in the USA must be stopped. Imprisonment and deportation of people without due legal process must be stopped. All Muslims and other people like Fahd Hashmi and Sami Al-Arian, currently held in jail, must be released and provided the opportunity to defend themselves in the court of law. Guantanamo jail must be closed immediately and innocent detainees released or tried in open court.

4.       The Government must help people facing foreclosure of their homes and address economic crises on war footing.

5.       Due to serious food crises in the world the US Administration must stop subsidizing farmers to convert grains to fuel. Feeding of humanity must be a top priority.

6.       The emerging economic powers must behave responsibly and help other developing nations.

7.       The separation of children from their parents in the name of enforcement of immigration laws by the Homeland Security must be stopped and dignity of women respected. Children of immigrants must be provided equal opportunity in education, healthcare and housing so that they could grow up as productive citizens of this country. All immigrants present in the country should be provided legal protection and should not be deported without due process.

8.       Homeland Security must expedite the legalization process and clear the back log of applicants.

9.       All secrets collected by the HHS must be released immediately and such activities must be stopped.

10.   The US Government should stop interfering in the democratic process in Pakistan and allow the new government to function independently.

11.   The Bush Administration must stop protecting the military dictator General (r) Musharraf and compel him to resign immediately. His current interference in judiciary and new government is destabilizing the democratic process in Pakistan.

12.   The people of Pakistan have proved without a shadow of doubt that they love democracy in the same way as the people of other nations. They not only defeated the forces of dictator Musharraf but also eliminated religious conservatives through electoral process. Musharraf must listen to their voice and vacate Presidency immediately.
