US Palestinian American National Conference Declaration

PAC, June 10, 2008

The Palestinian American National Conference held in Chicago on May 23-25, 2008 coincided with the 60th anniversary of the Nakba under the banner of “The Right of Return and Palestinian National principals” with an extended invitation to various Palestinian organizations across Chicago and the United States.
The event included many distinguished Palestinian keynote speakers from Palestine and the United States as well as supporters of the Palestinian cause. Unfortunately, some of the invitees were unable to attend due to travel bans imposed by Israeli Occupation Forces. The event brought together over a thousand participants representing over twenty Palestinian, Arab, Christian and Muslim organizations encompassing various political views.
The event included panel discussions covering a wide range of pertinent topics of interest to the Palestinians in both Palestine and the United States.
The conference concluded with an emphasis on the following:
  1. The right of return of all exiled Palestinians to their original hometown villages and cities, in accordance with the United Nations Resolution 194.
  2. The Palestinian Rights of Self Determination and the creation of an independent, contiguous, and democratic Palestinian State in the land of Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital.
  3. The call for all Palestinian leadership, Civic and political organizations to work tirelessly on the release of all Palestinian prisoners being held illegally by the Israeli Occupation Forces.
  4. Protecting and reinforcing the Palestinian National Unity; therefore the call for Fateh and Hamas to respect and adhere to the Mecca Accord. In addition, the call for the Palestinian leadership and all national political factions to put an end to all internal strife and power struggle which has negatively impacted the Palestinian cause.
  5. Respect for religious and political differences and emphasis on the Palestinian struggle against Israeli occupation as a sign of respect and honor for all those who gave their lives for Palestine and its noble cause.
  6. Protecting Jerusalem against Israelization and the deliberate alteration of its landscape exerted by the Israeli government and Zionist organizations.
  7. Reviving and empowering the PLO and its various institutions as the sole and legitimate representative of all Palestinians.
  8. Re-enforcing the unity of all Palestinian, Arab, Muslim, and Christian organizations in the United States of America to work together towards a common goal to better serve the Palestinian cause.
  9. The emphasis on holding this conference on an annual basis as one way to ensure our commitment and dedication to working together for the Palestinian cause. A committee will be formed within a month to begin the preparation process for next year’s conference.
