Israelis Angry at Egyptian Soccer Player, Muhammed
Abu Trika, Google Removes his Famous Photo Displaying a Slogan of
Sympathy with Gaza
ccun.org, February 11, 2008
Muhammed Abu Trika is an Egyptian national hero. He scored the victory goal yesterday against the Cameron soccer team, in Ghana. His goal has allowed Egypt to keep the title of Africa's Soccer Champion for the second consecutive time, and for the sixth time in the history of the game. Abu Trika got the world attention days earlier when he displayed a slogan of sympathy with the Palestinian people in Gaza, who have been subjected to the Israeli siege for more than a year. He expressed the feelings of average Egyptians, Arabs, and peace loving people around the world, who have been watching the plight of the Palestinian people, particularly as they destroyed the Israeli occupation wall two weeks ago, in order to get food and other supplies from Egypt. The Israeli occupation government did not like the Abu Trika behavior, as it doesn't want to see any body in the world expressing sympathy with its Palestinian victims. Therefore, they started to act against Abu Trika. *** The Israeli government has put pressure on the web search giant Google to remove the picture above from its search results for the entry 'Abu Trika.' It is also reportedly pressuring Fifa to sanction the player for 'sympathizing with Gaza.' Abu Trika is a well-known Egyptian soccer player who celebrated his goal scored against Sudan during an African Nations Cup game by removing his jersey to show his support and sympathy for the Palestinian people of Gaza, who have been suffering because of the Israeli siege. It's worth mentioning that during the last world cup in Germany 2006 the Ghanaian player Pantsil has taken out from his socks and waved an Israeli flag in celebration of a goal he scored. Fifa (The international committee which controls the world cup games) has taken no action against the player and Israeli media have expressed their gratitude to the gesture of then Israeli team Haifa Hapoel's player'. Fifa bans all sorts of political messages to be expressed by players while on the field.
