Vietnam: American Holocaust

A New Film By Clay Claiborne
Narrated by Martin Sheen

ccun.org, August 16, 2008

We have just produced a major new 87 minute documentary on the Vietnam War.  I have been working on this project for eighteen months and we sprinted to the finish line because I felt this film had an important role to play in our presidential election. While many, if not most Vietnam vets have come to the conclusion that our war against the Vietnamese was a serious mistake and a grave misuse of their honorable services, in fact many have participated in the making Vietnam: American Holocaust, which was funded, in part, by a grant from Veterans for Peace, there is one Vietnam veteran in particular that still sees the Vietnam War  as a noble experiment and sees the Iraq War as a second chance to "win this time". He is John McCain and he is running for president. It is among the greatest imperatives, for our country and indeed the world, that he not be elected!

Those that see profit in making war on small countries have been trying to rewrite the history of the Vietnam War ever since it ended. John McCain has been one on the leading proponents of this revisionist history. His main 'claim to fame' remains his involvement in that conflict. He can only be elected if the majority of voters have forgotten the true history of the Vietnam War and buy into his "John Wayne" notion of that war and the ones he wants to fight now. That is why I feel that this film is very timely and can make a real difference in this election.

I want to bring this film to the participates and visitors to the Democratic National Convention in Denver, August 25th-28th. I am reaching out to you for your support in doing this. I need a way to get myself and my stuff (posters, cards, dvd's, projector, sound system, etc.) to Denver. I'll need a place to stay and more important than anything else, a place to screen the film as often as possible while the convention is in town and people to help pull this off in Denver . So what it really boils down to is logistical and yes, financial support.

You can view a 4 minute trailer on YouTube  here and embedded below. You can also watch the full 87 minute Vietnam: American Holocaust on Google Video, but if you will send me a snail mail address I would like to send you a complementary copy of the DVD which not only contains the final version of Vietnam: American Holocaust but also five other features to be found nowhere else, including an interview with Scott Camil, the Vietnam vet that play such a vital role in the 1971 Winter Soldier hearings about the film, this interview was done this March at Winter Soldier: Iraq & Afghanistan, and Kennedy Wanted Out, which premieres some new material of John Kennedy and the Vietnam War, written and narrated by Martin Sheen.

I think when you have seen the DVD, you will agree that it deserves wide distribution at the DNC.
