John McCain protest, August 18, 2008

Friends:

Please help spread the word.

There will be a protest at a $50,000 fundraiser for John McCain on Monday, Aug. 18 from 4-6:30pm downtown at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, 265 Peachtree Center (between Harris and Baker).

In addition to the call from the International Action Center, Georgia Peace and Justice Coalition and others demanding

"Troops Out of Iraq! , No War on Iran! and"

"Cut Military Spending, Not Social Services!"

The North Georgia Labor Council and a retired workers association have also made plans to demonstrate in opposition to McCain's positions on privatizing social security, advancing big business over workers' rights and other issues.

You are encouraged to bring signs, banners, drums and other noise-makers.

Other politicians such as Saxby Chambliss, Johnny Isakson, and Sonny Perdue will be in attendance as well as businessmen such as Tom Bell, CEO of Cousins Properties, one of the biggest developers who led the privatization of Grady Hospital.

Volunteers are needed to distribute leaflets publicizing the demonstration.

There will be a sign-making session at the International Action Center office on Sunday, Aug. 17 from 4-7pm, Little 5 Points community Center, 1083 Austin Ave NE (corner of Euclid and Austin), Rm 203.

Parking is available behind the building. Take the stairs to the top floor. Rm. 203 is on the left side of the hallway.

Please respond to this message if you are coming so we can plan to have sufficient materials.

Help is also needed for the day of the protest -- to hold banners, lead chants etc. Reply to this message of you can volunteer.

Thanks.

Dianne for the International Action Center
