The Presumed Influence Of The Israel Lobby In Iraq

By Ali Al-Hail

ccun.org, September 4, 2007

Amongst a few, daring and wary views on the Israeli Lobby's activities in the West recently, the London Review of Books, published an article During March, 2006, written by John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt, entitled "The Israel Lobby: Does it Have too Much Influence on US Foreign Policy?" Needles to say that, though the article was a big distance from being anti-Semitic or anti-Jewish, and therefore, it was purely, political it had, as usual drawn swift charges across the spectrum of pro-Israeli Lobby of anti-Semitism and of anti-Jewish in the editorial pages of American newspapers.

It's become a common place fact by now that, whatever criticism is made in the West, in particular against Israel, would be dealt with as an anti-Semitism or anti-Jewish. This ambiance has for long, given Israel the green light to do whatever it wishes in the occupied Palestinian lands and even beyond.

No government officials in the West have the guts to criticize Israel. And those few who did defeat the 'taboo', and criticized Israel, had publicly, been attacked by the pro-Israel Lobby media and press, charged with the ready-well traded prosecution of being anti-Semitism and anti-Jewish. Such a fearful milieu has for the past 6 decades, made Israel a state which is utterly, above the law. One presumes, as do many that, the Israeli Lobby has exhaustively, for long been planting in the Western mind that, any criticism of Israel ought to (if not must) be taken seriously, to avoid another holocaust against JEWS.

According to the article, the infamous Israel-American Pubic affairs Committee (AIPAC) and the Israeli Lobby in the USA, for example have succeeded in brainwashing the U.S.A. administrations, evidently, since President Lyndon Johnson in the 1960's that, the U.S.A. interests and Israel's are inseparable. As a result, amongst other 'presumed mutual interests' the invasion, the occupation and the wars on Afghanistan and Iraq were really, according to many observers serving Israel's interests far much more than serving U.S.A. interests.

No doubt with hindsight geographically, Afghanistan and Iraq are thousands of miles away from the U.S.A. how could they pause a potential threat to the U.S.A.? Because Saddam once, for wrong reasons fired missiles on Israel arguably, the Israeli Lobby had convinced its allies across the U.S.A. political circles of the 'illusion' that, Saddam was a threat and consequently, he was to be wiped off.

Apparently, upon this reason only, Saddam's regime was deracinated. Everybody in the World is aware by now of the big fib upon which the war on Iraq was launched. There was no WMDs, and there was no linkages between Saddam and al-Qaeda's or 9/11.

There was however, an Israeli Lobby's demands to have Saddam's rule terminated. Furthermore, there have been speculations that, the disbanding of the Iraqi army and security forces after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein was an Israeli mandate. By the way, General Sir Mike Jackson, the Head of the British Army in Iraq during the invasion described the disbanding as "very short-sighted" (an interview with Sir Mike, Telegraph Newspaper, Saturday August 31st, 2007.) It seems that, Israel saw in the Iraqi army and in the Iraqi security forces remnants of Saddam's reign as a result, the Israeli Lobby most likely, had pressurized the Bush administration in order to disperse them.
