Arab Gulf Region And The Giant Powers, Part III: Europe and Gulf Missile Shield and The Iranian Connection By Ali Al-Hail ccun.org, October 9, 2007
I. Summary Of Part I: I discussed and analyzed an obsession on the part of the US with two things-oil and Israel security. Also, an obsession on the part of the Arab Gulf region with stability and security. The US long capitalized on the latter, by creating scenarios of fears and of psychological panic amongst Arab Gulf states. In this part, the discussion will focus on an US-Arab Gulf missile shield system purportedly, to be installed. A comparison between this one and the US Europe missile shield defense system and the US declaration of n Iranian connection. II. Where Is The Iranian Connection? An Iranian connection has perceivably, been made by the US, between Europe missile shield and reportedly, Arab Gulf missile shield. While the US declared that, the Europe shield aims at deterring Iranian missiles, Lt Gen Vladimir Popovkin, Russian space forces had categorically, rebuffed the US declaration by stating that, "It is very doubtful that elements of the national US missile defense system in Eastern Europe were aimed at Iranian missiles." Nevertheless, in both regions, the US is either the installer or else, the provider. At any case, US is the beneficiary. And the common bond is; economic and financial dominance and monopoly. Hence; Russia and many more countries saw in the US act to expand its embryonic missile defense shield to the Czech Republic and Poland, as "an obvious threat", according to the Russian military. The US undertaking was widely, observed as a return to the cold war era. Iran similarly, and many more countries will yet, see in the US-initiated newly, Arab Gulf missile shield, as both an escalation of war and an expansion of that in Europe. For, Iran and Russia are politically, closed, the US believes that, its Europe missile shield defense scheme would deter Russia rather than Iran in Europe, while its Gulf missile shield defense scheme would deter Iran. In both cases, the US clearly, manifests a thirst to monopolize and dominate in two of the most strategically, vital parts of the World. Consequently, the US conceivably, demonstrates a zero tolerance to any country that, is daring to intercept its agenda in the World, including Russia and Iran. Thus, the infamous most controversial Europe missile shield, and apparently, the new one in the Arab Gulf region by the US are, to assure staunchly, pro-US Eastern European and Arab Gulf states that, Russian and Iranian long range missiles, feared by them would be deterred, had Russia or, Iran embarked upon. However, many argue that, the US took its standoff with Iran, as an escape goat to justify its Europe missile shield defense scheme. Speculations and rumors have flown for sometime that, the US was always preoccupied with building a missile shield defense system in the Arab Gulf region to protect its oil supplies and to monitor the security of Israel, both of which the US is obsessed (think AIPAC and the Israeli Lobby). One presumes, as do many that, the US (albeit, it's perhaps, too early, to read too much into it since, so far, only, Bahrain, amongst the GCC states to announce such an initiative. III. Why Is Bahrain To Go First: Bahrain has officially, announced allegedly, pressurized by the US that it would install a missile shield defense system, bought from the US for just under $400 million which would be fixed by a group of US experts. Other GCC member states most likely, would follow suit. This dangerous and unprecedented development boosts conjectures about the US-led-West's capitalizing on the seemingly, volatile situation, in order to retail their missile shield defense systems and other war equipment technology to the oil and gas rich region. Bahrain has its own unique social structure. Nearly, 70-75% of Bahrainis are Shi'is. When the Islamic-Shi'i revolution emerged in 1979, observers had thought Bahrain would be next. Since then Bahrain Sunni ruling family perceived Iran as an enemy No. 1. This had long been publicly, declared by its Prime Minister. As a result, it's part of the US war psycho-propaganda, to capitalize on a war as it's imminent. Especially that, the GCC countries' credit is fluent while, according to the IMF recent report the US credit suffers sever crisis. IV. The Dubai Surprise: What has vigorously, been surprising, in the mid of all of this phobia; the Dubai, Police Force Chief 's public urgency to the GCC next month annual conference at Doha to consider Iran as a member State in the GCC. It's known that Dubai, is the most viable business partner to Iran in the GCC states with roundabout $3 billion annually, in trade. It's also reflects Dubai's policy of balancing its relations with all giant forces, US, Israel and Iran. More importantly, Dubai is almost entirely, rely heavily, on business and any war with Iran could viciously, devastate the region. The formal urgent call on GCC leaders to include Iran in the GCC, has widely, been weighed out by many in the region as an obvious resentment to war preparations such as that, of missile defense shield to be installed in Bahrain.
