The America of the Neo-Conservatives

By Samir Abed Rabbo

ccu.org, November 5, 2007

For many years, American Neoconservatives have been waging a relentless war to shape America , to rearrange its priorities, and to mold its culture. To accomplish this task, the Neoconservatives settled on Islam as their Ghoul, to demonize Muslims, and to invade their land. This war has been waged on many levels of the American society and is developing a culture of its own.

Who are the Neoconservatives?

The Neoconservatives or the Empire builders, as they are often called, are Americans, mostly of the Jewish faith who are fond of Israel as an exclusive Jewish state, its brutal practices against the Palestinians and its neighbors, its military use for expansion and the creation of facts on the ground, and its contempt for diplomatic discourse and peaceful co-existence. They are known as the Neoconservatives or Neocons for short.

Due to its size and resources, the most Israel could accomplish is regional dominance. Even if a regional empire was to be created, Israel will need the continued and unconditional support of a world power, presently the United States of America . In order for the US and its people to tolerate and support Israel ’s racism, militarism, aggression and expansion, the US society has to be restructured and tamed.

What do the Neoconservatives believe?

The Neocons occupy leading roles in academic, mass media, and government circles.

Through a web of think tanks, periodicals and reports, the Neocons publish their world vision, articulate their message and peddle their influence. Long before 9/11, the Neocons vision for building the American empire stressed that America should not be ashamed of using its unrivaled military power; that modern threats can no longer be contained and therefore must be preempted by military actions; that the US has allowed dangers to gather by not spending enough on defense and aggressively confronting threats; the promotion of their version of American “values” around the world; deception, evasiveness, and manufacturing information are necessary tactics to accomplish the building of the empire. In short, the creation of an American copy of the Israeli model.

Instead of using the resources and good offices of the US to positively influence change on the world stage, the Neocons intended to destroy the world order. On its ruin, they aim to build the American Empire and a world consisting of those who are, in the minds of the Neocons, with us and those who are against us. The golden opportunity presented itself to the Neocons with the “election” of George Bush to the presidency. The Neocons went into action building the empire by indoctrinating the unsuspected and gullible majority of Americans and by shaping and guiding the policy of the Bush administration in dealing with the world. Iraq was their first target long before 9/11.

At the end of the Gulf War in 1991, Iraq was left a shadow of its recent past. Iraq ’s   military power was reduced drastically and its infrastructure in shambles. It suffered from acute shortages, and UN imposed crippling sanctions. Iraq was losing approximately 5,000 children a month due to malnutrition. The government, though brutal, was contained and posed no threat to its neighbors, the US and the world. The country was stable and cooperating with the UN to resolve outstanding issues. The majority of the international community was moving to ease the sanctions on Iraq and the country was on the road to rebuild after years of wars and devastations. The Neocons were not dissuaded for they had, as mentioned, a larger design.

Through military buildup, deceptions, outright lies, and manipulation, the Bush administration and the Neocons, inside and outside government, began their planning to attack Iraq . No knowledgeable person doubted the ability of the US to win a decisive military victory. But, divergent opinions arose regarding the rosy picture painted by the Neocons of Iraq after impending American invasion and occupation. The rosy picture was never materialized. The heinous attack of 9/11, though unrelated or connected to Iraq , was used by the Bush administration as the justification to attack Iraq . The attack on Iraq was not sanctioned or supported by the international community nor was it warranted or justified. Secretary General of the UN echoing the sentiment of the majority of the world declared the invasion and occupation of Iraq to be illegal. In the aftermath of the invasion, the record shows the extent to which the administration has gone to lie and deceive the American people and the world about Iraq ’s capabilities and the gross negligence, if not criminal, lack of preparedness. The arrogance and reckless behavior of the Bush administration is derived from the Necons blueprint for the US position in the world. Today, the Necons are at it again advocating military action against Iran . Seriously, is Iran a threat to the US ? In comparison to insignificant Iran , the United States is an economic power and possesses the military power to kill every living creature on earth 20 times over. Frankly, I would like to die once: a natural death!

The Neocons share in common their affinity, unconditional support for greater and militaristic Israel , and their jaundice if not racist views of Islam and Muslims. Some of them see the establishment of Greater Israel as the harbinger for Armageddon where approximately 86,000 people may survive and blood will flow to the knees.  Their activities are predicated at using American military power to destabilize the Middle East, thus freeing Israel to achieve its Zionist dream: 1) to ethnically cleanse the land of historical Palestine of its Palestinian people and 2) the establishment of an exclusive Israel for Jews only. Some of its leading personalities include Richard Perle, Bill Kristol, his father Irving Kristol, Norman Bodhoretz, David Brooks, Daniel Pipes, David Horowitz, Paul Wolfowitz , Douglas Feith, Lewis "Scooter" Libby, John Bolton, Elliott Abrams, Robert Kagan, Michael Ledeen, Frank Gaffney Jr., Martin Indyk, and Martin Kramer. Some of the Neocons’ publications are Encounter, Commentary, The Weekly Standard, and The Republic and aided by think tanks such as: the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP),  the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), the Project for the New American Century (PNAC), and the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA), the Middle East Forum (MEF), and Freedom Center (FC). The FC’s last initiative is called “Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week”, a serious lectures on college campuses that are designed to contribute to the atmosphere of hate and anger at Islam and Muslims. In fact, recent newspaper columns began sprouting a round the country warning Americans about the emergence of a new fifth column in America due to the rapid construction of mosques and Islamic schools in the country.  In my opinion, if a fifth column exists in our midst is the Neocons and here is why:

What binds us together as Americans is a single political document, the Constitution. Regardless of ethnicity, color, gender, economic status or national origin, we the people are entitled and promised justice, security, liberty and equality under the law. The Constitution accords us certain inalienable rights that can’t be abridged by government including but not limited to: freedoms of speech and peaceably assemble; the right of people to be secure in their persons, homes, papers, and effects; the rights to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury, to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation, and to confront and produce witnesses; to be represented by Counsel; the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended except in cases of rebellion or invasion; no Bill of ex post facto Law shall be passed; and that the Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment and the free exercise of religion. The same document requires that the highest executive officer in the country, the President, to take an oath to “…preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States ”. In my opinion, this requirement applies across the board to all Americans. The Constitution does not require us to agree with the government’s policies nor does it hold the accused guilty without due process.

American Muslims as in the case of other people of faith have the right, in accordance with local and state laws, to establish as many Mosques and schools as they deem appropriate and practice their religion as they wish. Government can and should act in appropriate measures in cases where evidence of illegal activities is clear and present.

The Constitution envisions the USA to practice, live by, and defend the “law of Nations”. International Law only permits military action in self-defense and only after all attempts have failed to settle international disputes by peaceful means.

Obviously, Neocons do not adhere to the Constitutional guarantees, rights and liberties, and to checks and balances between the three branches of government. In fact, I suspect that some of the Neocons would like to transform America into the liking of Israel , a country that has no constitution. Just imagine an America that is governed by a president who has no constitutional obligations and is manipulated by a well organized and financed group of ideologues? Does this remind you of our present day America ?
