Danish Soldiers in Iraq Reconsidering?

By Carsten Kofoed

ccun.org, August 20, 2007

The Danish ground forces in Iraq are on their way home. The withdrawal is not due to “mission accomplished”, but due to the Iraqi resistance which has caused the losses and resistance affecting the Danish Parliament and making the Iraq war a loser issue.

As an active anti-war activist throughout five years, it has been miserable to hear Danish Iraq soldiers accusing opponents of the war for being disloyal to Denmark. The war in Iraq is illegal. According to international law, it is a war crime and has ended in a huge humanitarian catastrophe. These are the facts and supporting such things is totally immoral no matter what the soldiers themselves believe they have done.

Had the soldiers listened to the opponents of the war instead of the lies of the war politicians, eight of them had not lost their lives in the US oil war. Maybe they should consider why Denmark has a defence force? Danish soldiers on foreign soil have nothing to do with defending Denmark. It is called occupation and is never popular – neither at home nor abroad.
