Syrian Army, Russian Forces Deploy Reinforcements In Southeastern Idlib & Northern Aleppo

SOHR, 29/09/2019

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Russian forces have reportedly deployed fresh reinforcements around Greater Idlib, where several terrorist groups are stationed.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), several units of the army were deployed in the eastern and southeastern Idlib countryside on September 26.

“Dozens of military vehicles loaded with weapons, ammunition and soldiers were deployed in the said areas [the eastern and southeastern Idlib countryside],” a report by the SOHR reads.

The London-based monitoring group also reported that additional Russian forces were deployed in northern Aleppo. Weapons were reportedly sent to the area surrounding the key city of Tell Rifaat, where a new field hospital was also established.

The deployment of these forces appears to be a result of the recent violations of the ceasefire agreement in Greater Idlib.

While the SAA could be preparing for a new offensive in southeastern Idlib, Russian forces are likely fortifying their positions along the frontlines with Turkish-occupied areas in northern Aleppo.
