The Iraqi troops killed an alleged Islamic State militant and destroyed several terrorist hotbeds following fierce clashes with the militant group, the statement read. A large cache of military equipment, bombs and explosive belts were found inside the hideouts, added the statement. Iraq declared victory over Islamic State in December 2017 with the help of a US-led alliance, having retaken all the territory captured by the extremists in 2014 and 2015. Despite their defeat, Islamic State militants continue to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses a threat against stability in the country. An alleged Islamic State sniper wounds two Iraqi soldiers in Diyala by Mohammed Ebraheem Apr 14, 2019, 12:45 pm Diyala (IraqiNews.com) – Two Iraqi soldiers were wounded on Saturday night when an alleged Islamic State sniper opened fire at them in Diyala province, a local source was quoted as saying. “A security checkpoint located at the entrance of Hamrin basin, 54 km northeast of Baqubah, came under a sniper attack by Islamic State militants late last night,” the source told Baghdad Today news website on Sunday. “Two Iraqi soldiers were wounded as a result of the attack,” added the source, warning that the sniper attacks by Islamic State militants have claimed the lives of several security forces in the past months. In January 2015, Iraqi forces announced liberation of Diyala province from Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014. The province has seen months of fighting between Iraqi troops and IS militants especially in the Jalawla and Saadiyah areas in the province’s north and areas near the town of Muqdadiyah. 4 paramilitary fighters injured by an alleged ISIS attack on Khanaqin by Loaa Adel Apr 13, 2019, 10:51 pm Diyala (IraqiNews.com) -- A security source informed that four members of Al-Hashd Al-Shaabi were injured on Saturday. The fighters were injured while thwarting an attack by the Islamic State group in Khanaqin District, Alsumaria News reported. The source said in a statement that the Islamic State militants carried out an attack, today, on a checkpoint belonging to Al-Hashd Al-Shaabi (Paramilitary fighters) in Gulay area in Khanaqin District. The attack resulted in the injury of fighters; however, that attack was thwarted. Security forces cordoned off the area of the incident, and transferred the injured fighters to a nearby hospital to receive the needed treatment, the source added. Iraqi troops kill two alleged Islamic State members in Anbar by Mohammed Ebraheem Apr 13, 2019, 8:03 pm Anbar (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi troops killed on Saturday two alleged Islamic State suicide bombers following fierce clashes in the western province of Anbar. “Backed by Iraqi warplanes, troops of the Anbar Operations Command stormed 18 hotbeds of the Islamic State group along the international highway in Anbar province,” Almaalomah news website quoted the Security Media Cell as saying in a press release. “The troops arrested two IS suicide bombers following fierce clashes,” the statement read, adding that six armored vehicles and two explosive charges were found inside the hotbeds. In addition, two more alleged IS suicide bombers were arrested, the statement added. Iraq declared the collapse of Islamic State’s territorial influence in November 2017 with the recapture of Rawa, a city on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, which was the group’s last bastion in Iraq.
