Ten Iraqis were killed and injured in an explosion in Sab' Al-Boor, north of Baghdad. In another explosion in Shaikh Omar Street, central Baghdad, six people were killed or injured.

Three Iraqi government militiamen were killed and eight were injured in two car bombing attacks in 'Ankoor area, south of Ramadi.

Iraqi government militiamen abducted eleven truck drivers and confiscated their trucks in Al-Nakheeb, southwest of Al-Anbar Province.

وافاد مصدر حكومي: "ان عبوة ناسفة كانت موضوعة بالقرب من سوق شعبي في منطقة سبع البور شمال بغداد، انفجرت صباح اليوم الخميس، ما اسفر عن مقتل شخصين واصابة 8 اخرين بجروح".

أفاد مصدر حكومي اليوم الخميس بأن ستة اشخاص سقطوا بين قتيل وجريح؛ بانفجار عبوة ناسفة وسط بغداد.

 وقال المصدر "إن عبوة ناسفة انفجرت صباح اليوم في شارع الشيخ عمر، وسط بغداد، ما أسفر عن مقتل شخص وإصابة خمسة مدنيين بجروح متفاوتة".

استهدف مقرا لهم في منطقة عنكور جنوب الرمادي

قتلى وجرحى من افراد ميليشيات الحشد والجيش الحكومي؛ بتفجير سيارتين مفخختين استهدف مقرا لهم في منطقة عنكور جنوب الرمادي.

واكدت الانباء الصحفية الواردة من المحافظة في خبر عاجل نشر قبل قليل ان السيارتين المفخختين انفجرتا بعد اقتحامهما مقرا للقوات الحكومية في منطقة (عنكور) جنوبي الرمادي، ما اسفر عن مقتل ثلاثة من افراد المقر على الفور، واصابة ثمانية آخرين بجروح، كحصيلة اولية، حالات بعضهم حرجة للغاية، ما يرجح ارتفاع عدد القتلى.

ميليشيات الحشد تختطف "11" سائقا وتستولي على شاحناتهم في ناحية النخيب جنوب الانبار

اختطفت ميليشيات الحشد أحد عشر سائقاً واستولت على شاحناتهم في ناحية النخيب جنوب غرب محافظة الانبار على الحدود مع محافظة كربلاء.

واوضحت مصادر صحفية نقلا عن شهود عيان من اهالي الناحية ان ميليشيا مسلّحة أوقفت الشاحنات التي كانت تنقل بضائع إلى المحافظات الجنوبية وقامت بمصادرتها بعد اعتقال سائقيها الذين اقتادتهم إلى جهة مجهولة مؤكدا أن هذه الحالة تكررت أكثر من مرة خلال الأيام الماضية.

مضيفا ان نقاط التفتيش الواقعة على حدود محافظة كربلاء اعتقلت تسعة نازحين من الرمادي كانوا متوجهين إلى بغداد عبر كربلاء .

18 killed in violence, airstrikes against IS in Iraq

BAGHDAD, June 10, 2015 (Xinhua) --

A total of 18 people were killed and 36 others wounded in separate bomb attacks and airstrikes targeting positions of Islamic State (IS) militants in central Iraq on Wednesday, security source told Xinhua.

One of the attacks occurred in the afternoon in the northern part of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, when a suicide bomber detonated his explosive-laden car in al-Sadrain intersection at the entrance the Shiite district of Shula, leaving at least five people killed and some 17 others wounded, an Interior Ministry source said on condition of anonymity.

The blast also destroyed several nearby buildings and shops and set ablaze several civilian cars at the scene, the source said.

In Anbar province, Iraqi helicopter gunships pounded an IS base near Nadhim al-Taqseem in north of the IS-held city of Fallujah, which itself located some 50 km west of Baghdad, leaving at least eight militants killed and seven others wounded, a provincial security source told Xinhua.

Meanwhile, Iraqi aircraft carried out an airstrike near Albu Shejil area near the military airbase of Habbaniyah, some 80 km west of Baghdad, destroying two vehicles carrying fuel and leaving three civilians killed and five others wounded, the source said.

Also in Anbar province, two soldiers were killed and seven government-backed paramilitary members were wounded in clashes with IS militant at the edge of the town of Barwana near the city of Haditha, some 200 km northwest of Baghdad, the source added.

The IS group has seized most of Anbar province and tried to advance toward Baghdad during the past few months, but several counter attacks by security forces and Shiite militias have pushed them back.

Iraq has been witnessing some of the worst violence in years. Terrorism and violence have killed at least 12,282 civilians and wounded 23,126 others in 2014, making it the deadliest year since the sectarian violence in the 2006-2007 period, according to a recent UN report.

Syrian opposition fighters eye another airbase in southern Syria

DAMASCUS, June 10, 2015 (Xinhua) --

Just a day after capturing a major military base in Daraa province in southern Syria, several groups of Syrian opposition fighters announced on Wednesday to launch a new battle to capture a nearby airbase in the Swaida province, a monitor group reported.

Many hard-line militant groups announced the battle of "Crushing the Tyrants," aiming to "liberate" the al-Tha'la airbase in the countryside of the southern province of Swaida, just a day after the militants overran the sprawling Brigade 52 base on the outskirts of the southern province of Daraa, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The UK-based watchdog group said the militants also want to capture the town of al-Tha'la, where the airbase is located.

The Syrian opposition fighters have started shelling the airbase with mortars and artillery, with no reports on losses yet.

A day earlier, Jihadist militant groups unleashed a wide-scale offensive on the Brigade 52 in Daraa, capturing the facility and killing 20 government soldiers, the Observatory said.

Brigade 52 is one of the major military bases in Daraa that the rebels have repeatedly attempted to storm and not succeeded, but they finally managed to take it on Tuesday.

The downfall of the entire base has exposed the nearby airbase of Tha'la in Swaida, which is mainly inhabited by the Druze minority which largely support the Syrian government.

Activists from Swaida said people in the towns adjacent to Daraa are bracing themselves to battle the jihadists, in case they wanted to infiltrate Swaida.

U.S. military considering more Anbar-style hubs in Iraq: officer

The United States is considering replicating the creation of a new U.S. military hub in Anbar elsewhere in Iraq as the campaign against Islamic State advances, the top U.S. military officer said on Thursday.

"It's another one of the options that we're considering," General Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a small group of reporters before landing in Naples, Italy, acknowledging that might require more troops.

Dempsey said examination of such a possibility was "just part of prudent planning."

His comments came a day after President Barack Obama ordered the deployment of 450 additional U.S. troops to Iraq as the United States establishes a hub in the Sunni heartland to advise and assist Iraqi forces seeking to retake territory lost to Islamic State.

The hub will be located at the Taqaddum military base, which is only about 15 miles (25 km) from Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province, which fell to Islamic State militants last month.

Dempsey described the Taqaddum base as a "lily pad" for the U.S. military to expand farther in Iraq to help encourage and enable Iraqi forces to battle the Islamic State. He said planning for other such sites was not just at the theoretical level.

"At the planning level, it's not theoretical. It's very practical, looking at geographic locations, road networks, airfields, places where we can actually establish these hubs," Dempsey said.

Dempsey did not see another such site in Anbar province anytime soon.

"But I could conceive of one potentially somewhere in the corridor that runs from Baghdad to Tikrit to Kirkuk and over into Mosul. So we're looking at that area," Dempsey said.

The plan to expand the 3,100-strong U.S. contingent in Iraq and open a new operations center closer to the fighting in Anbar province marks an adjustment in strategy for Obama, who has faced mounting pressure to do more to blunt the momentum of the insurgents.

But with Obama sticking to his refusal to send troops into combat or to the front lines, the White House announcement failed to silence critics who say the limited U.S. military role in the conflict is not enough to turn the tide of battle.

Dempsey, who has long warned about the limits of U.S. military power in Iraq, expressed confidence that the latest deployments to Taqaddum would help advance Iraq's military campaign against Islamic State.

But the real test was whether Iraq could mend a sectarian rift, something that was up to the country's political leaders.

"When people say: 'Is this a game changer? This new partner capacity site? No.' It’s an extension of an existing campaign that makes the campaign more credible," Dempsey said.

"The game changers are going to have to come from the Iraqi government themselves."
