195 Palestinians Killed, 1385 Injured, Haniya and Shalla'h Condemn Israeli War-Crimes, Insist on Ending Siege of Gaza, July 15, 2014

Ismail Haniya Says Palestinian Resistance Is Writing History

[ 15/07/2014 - 10:27 AM ]

GAZA, (PIC)--

Ismail Haniya, deputy chairman of Hamas Political Bureau, said the Palestinian nation and resistance are today at a turning point in their fight against the Israeli occupation and have opened up new horizons before future Palestinian generations.

Haniya declared in a speech delivered to the Palestinian people on Monday evening “Today we shall all stand up for our land, people, dignity and the future of our offspring.”

“Today the Israeli occupation and the world have seen with their own eyes how far al-Qassam Brigades can go”, he added.

Haniya said contacts and moves have been going on so as to bring the Israeli aggression against Palestinian civilians to a halt

“Today the problem does not lie in the signing of truce agreement but in how far will the Israeli occupation be committed to it. Gaza has been paying a heavy price due to the siege which should be immediately lifted so as to allow our people to live in dignity”.

"The blockade imposed on Gaza failed to destroy our will, failed to prevent resistance from getting all tools it needs to defend our people, land, and dignity,” he stated.

“Our resistance has made proof of an unbreakable will, strength, and efficiency in the face of such aggressions.”

“The power of our resistance is a source of energy to everybody in Palestine. We shall always draw our power from it to make our return and freedom dreams come true.”

Haniya said the Israeli occupation has been dragging its feet vis-à-vis the previous calm agreement signed in Egypt in 2012.

“Israel has not only kept Gaza under a heavy siege but also launched waves of air raids and attacks targeting our infrastructure, homes and civilians,” he explained.

Haniya hailed the Palestinian masses saying they are a source of pride! “You’ve stood firm in every field and backed up your brothers and sisters throughout their fight for freedom… hats off for your patience, resilience, self-abnegation, and blood. Today you’re re-writing the history of an entire nation.”

“We should all stand by our brothers and sisters in Gaza, Occupied Jerusalem, and the West Bank and defend our children and sanctities till our last breaths,” Haniya concluded.

Shalla'h: Ceasefire deal must end Gaza siege

[ 14/07/2014 - 03:55 PM ]

DOHA, (PIC)--

The Secretary General of the Islamic Jihad Movement, Ramadhan Abdullah Shalla'h, said on Sunday evening that Israeli occupation is unable to achieve any of its goals of its aggression on Gaza.

In an interview with al-Jazeera TV, Shalla'h said that the current Israeli aggression exposed its intelligence and strategic failure.

Israel is trying to export its internal crisis through its aggression on Gaza, he said.

The calm for calm is no longer on our agenda, he said. The current battle would not end without Israel’s acquiescence to lifting the siege, opening border crossings, and acknowledging Palestinian right to respond to any future aggression, Shalla'h affirmed.

He stressed the Palestinian resistance's steadfastness, coherence, and unity in defending the Palestinian people and Arab and Islamic nation as a whole.

Unfortunately, there is no serious mediation up to this moment, the Jihad leader said, adding that the only mediator who can bridle the occupation (the USA) is itself involved in this aggression.

Shalla'h stressed the importance of the Egyptian role that was the mediator of previous truce agreements.

Shalla'h called on the Egyptian leadership to intervene and put an end to Palestinian people's suffering.

He urged PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to stop security coordination with the occupier who carries out homicide in Gaza. He also called on Fat'h leadership to trigger a third intifada (uprising) in the West Bank.

The senior Jihad leader said that there is a high-level military coordination between his movement and Hamas to confront the occupation and its aggression.

Shalla'h stressed the importance of reconciliation agreement and national unity in order to foil Israeli schemes that aim to deepen the internal division.

For his part, member of Hamas’ political bureau Mousa Abu Marzouk said that Israeli aggression aims to impose a status quo on the Palestinian people and force them to raise the white flag.

“They want us to put down our arms and leave the resistance,” he said in reference to the ongoing truce efforts.

They started the battle, and we will stay on our land and fight to protect our future.”

UNICEF: Gaza Violence Most Devastating for Children

Tuesday July 15, 2014 02:56 by Chris Carlson - 1 of International Middle East Media Center Editorial Group

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has said via press statement, that the escalating violence in the Gaza Strip and Israel threatens devastating harm for children on all sides, urging restraint to protect all children.

According to the statement: "Palestinian children have been reported killed in airstrikes on Gaza and many more injured. The coastal enclave is under closure, making it difficult for civilians to flee. In Israel, rocket attacks from Gaza threaten the lives of Israeli children as well.

"Both airstrikes and rocket attacks are putting children at risk, leaving them exposed to physical harm and mental distress," said the organization, adding: "many already experienced violence and destruction during previous escalations."

"UNICEF reiterates the UN Secretary-General's call on parties to exercise maximum restraint, and reminds them of their legal and moral obligation to protect children from harm," the statement concluded, according to WAFA Palestinian News & Info Agency.

Children are indeed bearing the brunt of the worsening violence in the region, WAFA further reports, with over 30 killed in Gaza, in recent days, and hundreds more injured, according to UNICEF Executive Director, Anthony Lake, who issued a press statement Sunday.

"No child should have to suffer the terrifying impact of such violence," he said.

"The violence is taking a shocking toll on children both physically and psychologically, with alarming consequences for future chances of peace, stability and understanding. Too often children who witness such violence, and come to view it as 'normal', are likely to repeat it themselves in later life," the statement further read.

According to WAFA, on-ground UNICEF staff members have spoken with families who describe the deep emotional impact that the current violence is having on children - children who are not sleeping or who are having nightmares, children who have stopped eating, and children who are exhibiting harrowing signs of mental distress.

Euro-Mid Observer: Israel deliberately targets civilian homes

[ 15/07/2014 - 06:38 AM ]

GENEVA, (PIC)--

Euro-Mid Observer for Human Rights expressed, in its report issued on Monday, great concern regarding Israeli deliberate targeting of civilian homes in Gaza Strip.

Euro-mid pointed out that Israeli forces have been targeting civilian homes in the Gaza Strip for six days in a wide range exceeding military necessities and using excessive force.

Israeli forces fire a “light” missile on the roof of the targeted home as a “warning”, before firing another missile in less than a minute which destroys the home completely. These warnings have been reported to be lethal, as causalities have been reported including injuries. Additionally, not enough time is provided for civilians to evacuate properly, according to the report.

Euro-mid stated that Israeli forces have intended to target civilian homes in a wide range since the assault on Gaza started. In the first 7 days, 1653 houses have been damaged, 240 of them were totally destroyed. In addition, 25 mosques were damaged, 4 of them were totally destroyed; 6 medical clinics and 39 schools were damaged.

Euro-mid's report included an info graphic showing the statistics on the seventh day of the Israeli offensive on Gaza. 182 Palestinian citizens, including 39 children and 24 women, were killed and 1397 others, including 421 children and 232 women, were injured in the wave of Israeli airstrikes that rocked the Gaza Strip over the past seven days.

3594 rockets were fired on Gaza Strip during the past week including 685 naval rockets, 2269 air raids, and 640 artillery shells, the info graphic shows.

Euro-Mid Observer urged the Israeli forces to immediately stop the targeting of the Palestinian civilians homes and to exclude civilians as much as possible from the terror of the Israeli assault on Gaza.

Hunt: The world should help Gaza population

[ 15/07/2014 - 06:37 AM ]

RAMALLAH, (PIC)--

The former UN special rapporteur on the right to health Paul Hunt said that the international community has a legal and human responsibility towards the people of Gaza Strip.

Hunt's statement came during a meeting with unity government Health Minister Jawad Awad in Ramallah on Monday.

Awad said that the Israeli occupation is practicing unprecedented fascist genocide in Gaza, pointing out that most of the medicines in West Bank's drug stores were transferred to Gaza despite the acute shortage of medical supplies.

For his part, Yousef Muheisen, the program officer of World Health Organization, said that the organization branch in the West Bank will provide all assistance to the Palestinian Health Ministry until the end of the crisis.

Palestinian Health Ministry has formed a joint operations room between the West Bank and Gaza in light of the continued Israeli aggression to meet urgent medical needs and coordinate efforts in this regard.
