In Response to the Army Ultimatum, Morsi Sticks to his Constitutional Legitimacy, 20 Killed in Clashes, Hundreds Injured
By Hassan El-Najjar Al-Jazeerah, July 3, 2013 In response to the Army ultimatum, Egyptian President, Muhammed Morsi, gave a speech in which he refused the ultimatum, sticking to his constitutional status as the legitimate, elected president of the country. Morsi also warned that any moves (by the Army) against the "Constitutional Legitimacy" (removing him from his office by force) will lead to bloodshed and will not be good for the country. Morsi added that he would sacrifice his life in defense of the Constitutional Legitimacy. So, he does not agree to leave office willingly, as the Army and the opposition want. Meanwhile, Morsi's supporters near Cairo University were attacked with unknown groups of armed men, who managed to kill 16 of them and injure hundreds, in an attempt to disband them. Four more people were killed, scores injured, in other places. The Army Ultimatum for the President and his opponents to find a solution to the crisis ends today at 4:00 pm, Cairo time, after which the Army will announce its plan to end the crisis. The opposition factions want the army to oust the President, suspend the Constitution, and hold new elections. The President, his Party of Freedom and Justice, and other Islamist parties oppose any attempts by the Army to impose its solution against the Constitution Legitimacy, including the democratically-elected President. *** Video of President Morsi's Speech:
