MENA: Egypt sees end to Gaza conflict on Tuesday Published today

Egyptian President Muhammad Mursi said on Tuesday that "Israeli aggression" against Gaza would end later in the day, the Egyptian state news agency MENA reported.

"President Muhammad Mursi announced that the farce of Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip will end on Tuesday," MENA said, quoting public remarks made by the country's head of state after the funeral of his sister.

"The efforts to conclude a truce between the Palestinian and Israeli sides will produce positive results in the next few hours," he was quoted as saying. Egypt has been trying to mediate a truce to end the conflict.

Mursi was speaking in Zagazig, a town north of Cairo in the Nile Delta. The MENA story did not provide a direct quote.

Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Kandil told Reuters on Monday a ceasefire could be close.

Deadly Gaza bombardment continues Published today

Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip killed six Palestinians on Tuesday, and another man died of his wounds, on the seventh day of Israel's bombardment of the coastal strip.

Abdul-Rahman Hamad, a militant in his twenties, was killed in the al-Shati refugee camp when Israeli jets bombed a group of fighters near the former headquarters of the Palestinian Authority intelligence service.

Another fighter was injured in the same airstrike on Gaza City.

Another man, not identified as a militant, was killed in an airstrike on a family home in central Gaza.

Muhammad Badr was killed when the Abu Tamma family home was hit in Deir al-Balah, wounding three others in the home, and three passers by.

The casualties raised Tuesday's death toll to seven in Gaza. Since the Israeli bombardment started on Wednesday, 124 Palestinians have been killed, and around 900 injured. Three Israelis died in a rocket attack last Thursday.

Gaza supplies stretched as fighting continues

Israel's military jets continued to pound the Gaza Strip for a seventh day, killing a 15-year-old Yahya Mohammad Awad in Gaza City and Bilal al-Barawi, 20, in north Gaza.

Another airstrike on al-Mughraqa in central Gaza killed Mohammad Rezeq al-Zahar, in his 30s, and wounded his three-year-old son Ahmad, medics said.

A Palestinian farmer, Akram Marouf, was killed by a missile while working on his land in north Gaza. Four Palestinians were reported injured in the same strike on Beit Lahiya.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Daghmash, who was wounded in an airstrike on Tal al-Hawa neighborhood in Gaza City, died of his wounds in el-Arish hospital in north Sinai.

Gaza militants continued rocket fire into Israel on Tuesday. Israeli media reported that a house in Beersheba was hit, causing damage but no injuries, and a reserve soldier was moderately injured in the Eshkol region.

Israeli police said more than 60 rockets were fired from Gaza by mid-day, and 25 of the projectiles were intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome system.

Meanwhile, civil defense officials in the Gaza Strip appealed to the Arab world for urgent supplies on Tuesday, as their resources are overstretched during the current bombardment.

Yousuf al-Zahar, head of the rescue service, said Israel's bombardment of high-rise buildings in Gaza was increasing injuries and deaths, but lauded the "professional and courageous" work of the service.

Ceasefire efforts

Egypt was trying to broker a truce between Israel and groups in Gaza. An Egyptian intelligence source said "there is still no breakthrough and Egypt is working to find middle ground."

In Cairo, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for an immediate ceasefire and said an Israeli ground operation in Gaza would be a "dangerous escalation" that must be avoided.

He had held talks in Cairo with Arab League chief Nabil al-Arabi and Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Kandil before travelling to Israel for discussions with its leader, Benjamin Netanyahu. Ban planned to return to Egypt on Wednesday to see Egypt's President Muhammad Mursi, who was unavailable on Tuesday due to the death of his sister.

Israel's leaders weighed the benefits and risks of sending tanks and infantry into the densely populated coastal enclave two months before an Israeli election, and indicated they would prefer a diplomatic path backed by world powers, including US President Barack Obama, the European Union and Russia.

The White House said Clinton was going to the Middle East for talks in Jerusalem, Ramallah and Cairo to try to calm the conflict. An Israeli source said she was expected to meet Netanyahu on Wednesday.

A delegation of nine Arab ministers, led by the Egyptian foreign minister, was due in Gaza later on Tuesday in a further signal of heightened Arab solidarity with the Palestinians.

Palestinian Killed In Gaza; Seven Killed Tuesday, 115 Since Wednesday

One resident was killed and several others were injured when the army bombarded a street, north west of Gaza City. Another Palestinians was killed in northern Gaza. 115 Palestinians, mainly civilians and children, have been killed since Wednesday and more than 900 have been injured.

Medical sources reported that a fighter, identified as Abdul-Rahman Hamad, in his twenties, was killed when the army fired a missile at fighters in northern Gaza; one resident was injured.

One resident, identified as Mohammad Bader, was killed and six residents have been injured when the army bombarded a home in central Gaza.

The home was first hit by a missile fired by fighter jets, wounding four Palestinians, and was hit a second time before the residents managed to leave the property.

Medical sources stated that rescue teams had to pull several civilians from under the rubble of a bombarded home in Gaza City.

Earlier on Tuesday, the army bombarded a home in Al-Mighraba, south of Gaza, leading to the death of one resident identified as Mahmoud Az-Zahhar; his child Ahmad was injured.

Two more Palestinians, including a farmer, were injured in Beit Lahia; several residents were injured in northern Gaza as army continued to bombard different neighborhoods in Gaza.

Four residents, including two children were injured when the army bombarded An-Nusseirat refugee camp, and dozens of residents were injured in Jabalia, in northern Gaza, Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia, Rafah and several areas in the coastal region.

Meanwhile, Israeli sources reported that a reserve soldier was injured by a Palestinian shell in Eshkol, and that dozens of shells were fired into areas in the south.

A missile reportedly hit a building in Be’er As-Sabe’; Israeli Ynet News reported that, earlier on Tuesday morning, that 18 shells were fired into Be’er As-Sabe’ causing damage to a building and some cars; just two missile were a hit while the rest landed and detonated in open areas.

Shells were also fired into the Israeli Negev time of Sderot, Ashdod, and Gan Yavne, the Ynet said.

The Ynet added that nine Israeli cabinet ministers met, on Monday at night, in order to discuss an Egyptian ceasefire proposal, and that the Israeli cabinet decided not to launch the ground offensive against Gaza but said Israel will invade Gaza should truce mediated talks fail.

At least 115 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli army fired in the Gaza Strip since Wednesday, while more than 900 have been injured; the majority of the casualties are civilians, including children elderly and women.

RASED: Washington and its allies responsible for the Israeli crimes in Gaza

BEIRUT, (PIC)--

The Palestinian Human Rights Foundation (RASED) condemned the Israeli inhumane crimes against the unarmed people in the Gaza strip and the Israeli deliberate targeting of innocent children and the Palestinian infrastructure and buildings, stressing that it is a genocide against the Palestinian people.

RASED has strongly condemned, in a statement on Monday, the Israeli attack on the tower, which includes media offices and journalists, with the aim of hiding the truth and to blackout its brutal crimes in Gaza.

The statement called on the international community to resume their political, legal, and humanitarian responsibilities and to stop the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian Arab people.

RASED stated that the U.S. administration and its allies in the region are the responsible for the Israeli crimes in the Gaza Strip under the pretext of self-defense, forgetting that children and innocents are being targeted in front of the whole world in light of the Arab official shameful silence towards the Israeli policy that dominates some Arab and European governments, led by the U.S. administration.

We call on all civil and voluntary institutions to launch relief convoys to rescue victims in the oppressed strip, and we call on the Egyptian government to make greater efforts to stop the aggression and lift the unjust siege on Gaza and open the Rafah crossing to the citizens unconditionally", the statement added.

Resistance fires tens of rockets at Israeli targets

The Palestinian resistance announced on Monday morning that it fired about 70 missiles toward Israeli occupation cities, towns and military sites, during today's morning hours.

The Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas movement, confirmed that its fighters bombed the area of Holit with two Grad rockets, and the location of the Israeli military intelligence in the east of Rafah with Qassam rocket.

They also bombed Majdal with five Grad rockets, and fired two Qassam rockets and ten other Grad rockets at the settlements of Muftahim and Ofakim.

For its part, "Saraya al-Quds", the military wing of the Islamic Jihad, has also announced that its fighters succeeded to bomb the area of "Jan Yibna" in the east of Ashdod with two Grad rockets, the areas of Eshkol and Be'eri with four 107 rockets and Ashdod with two Grad rockets.

They fired four Grad rockets at Beersheba missiles and seven 107 rockets, in addition to three mortar shells, at Kissufim and Abu Safiya.
