Isma'il Haniya Tours Tunisian Cities, Gives Friday Khutba in Qairawan Mosque

January 7, 2012

Thousands of Tunisians attend Haniya's Friday sermon in Qairouan Mosque

[ 07/01/2012 - 03:40 PM ]

TUNISIA, (PIC)--

Palestinian premier Ismail Haniya delivered the Friday Khutba (sermon) yesterday in Qairawan Mosque of Tunisia and talked about the importance of resistance as a means to liberate the occupied holy city of Jerusalem.

In his speech, Haniya criticized the Palestinian Authority's peace meetings with the Israeli occupation state describing them as "futile", and talked about the Palestinian people's steadfastness in the face of the Israeli aggression and blockade.

The Palestinian leader's speech reflected in general the Palestinian people's pride in their Islamic and Arab depth.

A spokesman for the Palestinian premier said Qairawan Mosque was crowded, for the first time in decades, with thousands of Tunisians who flocked earlier in the morning into the Mosque to listen to Haniya's Khutba.

In another context, member of the political bureau of the Tunisian Ennahda Movement Sayed Ferjani said in a press statement yesterday that Haniya's visit to Tunisia took place in response to a shared Palestinian-Tunisian desire.

Ferjani described Haniya's visit as positive, and said the Palestinians wanted to congratulate the people of Tunisia on the success of their revolution.

He stressed that the Tunisians received Haniya as a democratic leader who came to power through democratic elections.

"This is an elected government regardless of the inter-Palestinian disputes in which we, as Tunisians, do not like to interfere," the Tunisian official added.

Nunu: Haniya’s tour won’t include Gulf countries

[ 07/01/2012 - 05:47 PM ]

GAZA, (PIC)--

The current tour of Gaza premier Ismail Haniya would not include Gulf countries, the government’s spokesman, Taher Al-Nunu, said on Saturday.

He told Safa news agency that Haniya was planning to visit Gulf countries but not on this tour.

Nunu said that Haniya was currently touring Tunisian cities after concluding official talks with the country’s president and premier soon after his arrival on Thursday.

Haniya’s tour took him so far to Egypt, Sudan, Turkey, and Tunisia.
