Britain Becoming a Big Cannabis Farm

Press TV, Mon Apr 30, 2012 10:34AM GMT

Britain is a big cannabis farm where, according to the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo), an average 20 cannabis farms are found every day.

A survey by Acpo said the police have discovered a total 7,865 cannabis farms across Britain in 2011-2012 which shows a 15 percent increase since 2009-2010.

This is while the trend of cannabis plantation demonstrates an alarming hike as the recent figure is more than 150 percent greater than the number of finds across Britain four years ago.

The police also said the number of related offences has risen from 14,982 to 16,464 over the past year.

Scotland Yard commander Allan Gibson, who is in charge of police cannabis cultivation operations, has acknowledged the “significant risk” cannabis plantations pose to Britain.

Gibson added many plantations were found in houses, which make cannabis cultivation a “low-risk and highly profitable” business for criminals.

Acpo said in its report part of the problem of booming cannabis cultivation is rooted in the fact that cannabis factories are not a priority for many police forces, which rather focus on class A drugs including heroin and cocaine.
