Human rights organization warns of blackouts in the Gaza Strip [ 26/04/2012 - 10:31 PM ] GAZA,(PIC)-- A human rights institution has warned of the serious situation in Gaza due to electricity blackouts, saying that ignoring the crisis and not taking the appropriate action quickly to provide the Strip with the necessary power will result in a real catastrophic situation especially in summer. Gaza blackouts still continue daily for six years running after the Israeli Air Force attack on the only electrical power plant operating in the Gaza Strip in June 2006 that made things worse where Palestinian people are facing a collective punishment in total violation to international law. Al Mezan Center for Human Rights stated, in a report titled "the blackouts' impact on human rights in the Gaza Strip," that the electricity delivery service has several technical problems in addition to the occupation's bombing to power lines that supply electricity to the Gaza strip. The center added that the occupation collective punishment policy, the imposed siege on Gaza, the targeting of civilians and infrastructure, and the internal Palestinian rift had all deepened the electricity crisis in the Gaza strip. Gaza's energy supply is so bad, about 6 hours daily and 16 hours at the best of times over the 24 hours, the center confirmed. Fair Use Notice This site contains copyrighted material the
