Sticky bomb kills cop, his son, wounds civilian in Falluja

A policeman and his son were killed and a civilian was wounded in a sticky bomb blast in eastern Falluja, a police source said on Wednesday. “The bomb, stuck to the cop’s car, went off in al-Karma district in eastern Falluja, killing him and his son and wounding a civilian,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. He did not give more details. Falluja, Anbar province, lies 45 km west of Baghdad.

2 bombs leave 14 casualties in Kirkuk

At least four people were killed and ten others were wounded in two explosions in southwestern Kirkuk, a source from the joint coordination center said on Wednesday. “The first blast occurred at 8:30 am on Wednesday (Sept. 8) near al-Zab police station, southwestern Kirkuk, wounding a citizen and two policemen,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, pointing out the second blast took place at 9:15 am at the same place, killing three policemen and a Sahwa fighter and wounding seven people. “The bodies were sent to the morgue of Azadi hospital, while the wounded were rushed to the Kirkuk public hospital for treatment,” he explained. Kirkuk is 250 km northeast of Baghdad.

Two Iraqi soldiers wounded in police officer’s car blast

An Iraqi police officer has escaped an assassination attempt in Amiriyat al-Falluja city in western Iraq’s Anbar Province on Wednesday, when a cluster bomb blew up in his car on Wednesday, wounding two Iraqi soldiers, according to a security source in Falluja city.

“The police officer had discovered a strange device in his car, jumped out of the car, and when an expert Iraqi Army unit tried to dismantle the explosive device, it blew up, wounding two soldiers and causing severe damage to the car and another civilian car,” the source said.

Falluja city, the largest city in Anbar Province, is 45 km to the west of Baghdad, whilst Ramadi, the capital of Anbar is 110 km to the west of the Iraqi capital.

2 cops, 1 civilian wounded in grenade attack in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two policemen and one civilian were wounded on Wednesday in a grenade attack in western Mosul city.

“A gunman threw a grenade on an Iraqi police checkpoint in the al-Borsa area, western Mosul, wounding two cops and one civilian,” a local police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He noted that the gunman was able to escape after he launched the attack.

The source did not mention further details.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

1 killed, 21 injured in 4 blasts in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

One civilian was killed on Wednesday and 21 others were wounded in four blasts in different places in Baghdad.

“A booby-trapped vehicle went off targeting a security convoy in the al-Bayaa neighborhood, wounding 11 Iraqi servicemen and five civilians,” the Baghdad Operations Command said in statement posted online.

“Two roadside bombs went off in the al-Mahmoudiya and al-Nahdha areas, killing a civilian and wounding five others including a security serviceman,” the BOC explained.

“Two roadside bombs went off in the al-Adhamiya and al-Taji neighborhoods, leaving no casualties,” it added.

Gunmen kill TV reporter in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A TV reporter was killed on Wednesday when he came under gunmen’s fire in eastern Mosul city.

“Unknown gunmen killed the reporter near his house in al-Karama neighborhood, eastern Mosul,” a local police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He explained that the reporter died instantly.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

2 cops killed, 2 civilians injured in blast in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two policemen were killed on Wednesday and two civilians wounded when a roadside bomb went off in the southwest of Kirkuk city.

“The blast occurred near the al-Zab police station, 85 km southwest of Kirkuk,” a local police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He explained that an investigation into the incident is underway.

The oil-rich city of Kirkuk lies 250 km northeast of Baghdad.

1 civilian killed, 3 injured in blast in Tikrit

One civilian was killed and three others were wounded when a thermal bomb hit a U.S. army patrol in central Tikrit city.

“The blast occurred yesterday when unknown gunmen threw a thermal bomb on a U.S. army patrol in central Tikrit,” an Iraqi police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency on Wednesday.

Tikrit, the capital city of Salah al-Din province, lies 175 km north of Baghdad.

2 bombs kill 4, injures 9 in southwestern Baghdad

Four people, including two policemen, were killed on Wednesday and nine others were wounded when two roadside bombs went off in southwestern Baghdad.

“A roadside bomb hit today a police patrol near the al-Bayaa police station, southwestern Baghdad,” a police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Another roadside bomb went off when police forces came to the location,” the source added.

Iraqi soldier kills 2 U.S. soldiers east of Tikrit

An Iraqi soldier killed two U.S. servicemen inside a camp in Touz Khourmato district in Salah al-Din, a security source said on Tuesday. “Soldier Souran Marf Saleh shot and killed two U.S. soldiers inside the camp of the 4th brigade of the Iraqi army in Touz Khourmato, northeast of Tikrit,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The U.S. soldiers killed the Iraqi soldier on the spot,” he added, noting that security authorities started an investigation into the incident. Tikrit, the capital of Salah el-Din, lies 175 km north of Baghdad.

Gunmen kill woman in Mosul

Unknown gunmen killed a woman in central Mosul on Tuesday, according to a security source. “Unknown gunmen killed a woman on Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 7) in al-Akidat region, central Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “Policemen cordoned off the area and started an investigation into the incident,” he added. Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.
