Illegal Israeli Settlers Caught on Camera Torching Palestinian Cars in Qusra, Nablus

Published yesterday (updated) 16/10/2010 16:36

NABLUS (Ma’an) --

Three illegal Israeli settlers were caught on security cameras setting fire to two Palestinian cars in the village of Qusra in the northern Nablus district overnight Saturday.

The suspects, residents of the illegal Migdalim settlement, were filmed entering the nearby village at 1:40 a.m. and torching the two cars that were parked outside Ayman Hamdan's home.

The footage captured by Hamdan's home security surveillance also shows settlers writing "death to you" on his doorstep after the settlers drove up to his home in a Peugeot, fleeing the scene after the arson.

Hamdan, the owner of several agricultural projects in the Jordan Valley, said the two cars were used to transport both workers and produce.

Approximately 25 armed settlers from the settlement of Elone Moreh, near Nablus, attacked farmers while harvesting olive trees in lands adjacent to the settlement and fired at them, a witness reported.

The witness added that the settlers chased the villagers out of their orchards, causing a state of panic among farmers and creating tension in the region.

Illegal Israeli settlers begin new settlement expansion outside Jenin

Saturday October 16, 2010 11:41 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC News

Despite a statement by US officials Friday that they were disappointed in Israel's decision to continue expanding illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank and Jerusalem, new and existing illegal settlements have begun a massive building spree, including in several settlements near Jenin.

The Jenin-area settlements are particularly controversial due to their proximity to Palestinian cities and towns deep inside the West Bank, areas which were supposed to be under complete Palestinian control since the Oslo Accords were signed in 1993.

The Shaqed settlement, which is constructed on Palestinian land stolen from the village of Ya'bad, began a huge expansion on Saturday, bulldozing Palestinian fields and olive groves in preparation for the new construction.

Local witnesses report that construction has also begun in nearby settlements including Shaqed, Rehan, Hinnanit, Mevo Dotan. and Hermesh. Together, these settlements form a circle around the Palestinian village of Ya'bad, on whose land the settlements are constructed.

Although the Palestinians in the area point out that the Jenin-area expansions are particularly egregious, the violations are taking place all over the Palestinian areas since US-brokered negotiations broke down two weeks ago.

All Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem are considered illegal under international law, and have been condemned by multiple United Nations resolutions.
