Policeman killed by unknown armed men in central Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A policeman has been killed by unknown armed men in north Iraq’s city of Mosul, the center of north Iraq’s Ninewa Province, a Ninewa police source said on Saturday.

“A policeman, enjoying his week-end in Mosul, has been killed on Saturday, when a group of known armed shot him dead in central Mosul,” he said. He added that the “victim, who had been working in Ninewa Province’s Council, was killed in Sarijkhaneh district in Central Mosul, by unknown gunmen before they escaped to an unknown destination.”

Mosul, the center of Ninewa Province, is 405 km to the north of Baghdad.

Three new Katyusha rocket attacks on Baghdad, wounding two civilians

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three Katyusha rockets fell on west and central Baghdad on Saturday, after two other rockets had fallen on its fortified “Green Zone” early in the day, wounding two civilians, according to a security source.

“Two civilians have been wounded due to the fall of a Katyusha rocket close to the Traffic Directorate’s office in Abu-Nawas Street in central Baghdad on Saturday,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq News Agency.

Another Katyusha rocket fell on an empty square in west Baghdad’s Razwaniya area, but caused no human casualties, whilst another rocket fell in west Baghdad’s fortified “Green Zone,” early in the day, but the human and material losses were not known.

A security source had announced early in the day that two Katyusha rockets fell on the Green Zone, home for leading Iraqi government offices, the U.S. British and other Embassies, confirming that the police forces have discovered the launching pad the two rockets were fired from.

Eight persons injured in two cluster bomb blasts in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Eight persons have been wounded, among them five police men and Civil Defense elements, when two explosive charges went off south and central Baghdad on Saturday, a security source said.

“A cluster bomb, planted inside an alcohol ship close toe South Baghdad’s “Japanese House,” blew up, causing severe material damage to the ship,” the security source said.

The same source told Aswat al-Iraq added that “When the police and Civil Defense forces headed to the venue of the blast, another bomb, planted on the side of the road, blew up, wounding 7 persons, among them 3 policemen and 2 Civil Defense men and two civilians.”

“Another cluster bomb, planted in a civilian car, blew off in Aqaba bin-Nafi’e Square in central Baghdad, wounding its driver and causing material damage to his car,” he stressed.

Three citizens killed in different incidents in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

A Kirkuk citizen has been killed when unknown gunmen opened fire on him late Friday night, whilst a women committed suicide and another man was killed in a traffic accident in the city on Saturday, a source of the Joint Coordination Center in Kirkuk said on Saturday.

“A citizen was shot dead at 10:30 pm local time Friday, when armed men opened fire on him in front of his house in central Kirkuk’s Musalla district,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq.

The same source also said that a 30-year-old woman had committed suicide by shooting herself dead by a Kalashnikov gun, in western Kirkuk’s al-Failaq district, at 10:00 pm local time, whilst her husband was detained under investigation.

He also said that a man has died when a civilian car crashed him in the Korniche Street south of the city and the driver had escaped to an unknown destination.

Kirkuk is 280 km to the northeast of Baghdad.

Three booby-trapped cars blasts injure 15 persons in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

Fifteen persons have been injured in three booby-trapped cars blast in northern Kirkuk early on Saturday, a police source said.

“The explosions took place at 06:05 am in Kirkuk’s Shorja and Imam Qassim districts, the first close to the residence of Kirkuk’s Qadir-Karam township, Falah Mohammed, the second close to the residence of Sarkan township, Danial Jabbar and the third close to the residence of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Member, Dulair Qader,” Kirkuk’s Azadi Police Director, Biston Qaffazi told Aswat al-Iraq News Agency.

On his part, Kirkuk’s Townships & Villages Director, Brig. Sarhad Qadir said the explosions have injured 15 people, who were driven to hospitals, adding that they also cause material damage to a number of cars and citizens houses close to the venues of the explosions.

Kirkuk, the center of the Province carrying the same name, is 280 km to the northeast of Baghdad.

Body of Kurdish civilian found north of Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Security forces on Friday found the body of a Kurdish civilian a few days after he came from Zakho, north of Mosul, a security source in Ninewa province said.

“Iraqi security forces found the body of a Kurdish civilian showing signs of having been shot in the head and throat half-slit dumped near the village of al-Sada Buweiza, north of Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The relatives of the victim had last contact with him three days ago, after he went out of his house in Zakho district, Duhuk province,” he added.

Mosul, the capital city of the troubled province of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Sahwa leader killed, suspects nabbed in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

The leader of a pro-government sahwa (awakening) tribal fighters was killed when an improvised explosive device went off near his vehicle southeast of Kirkuk on Friday, according to a senior security official.

“An IED went off near the al-Rashad sahwa leader Awwad Hammoud Nassif on the Kirkuk-Tikrit highway, (35 km) southwest of Kirkuk, killing him instantly,” Brig. Sarhad Qader, the director of the Kirkuk Districts Police Department (KDPD), told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

In a separate incident, a source from Kirkuk police said a force from the al-Miqdad Police Department arrested two persons near an amusement park on al-Corniche street with about 345 kilograms of explosive material in their possession in accordance with Article 4 of the law on terrorism.

“The apprehension took place upon intelligence tip-offs by a local resident,” the source added.

The oil-rich Kirkuk, a city of mixed Arab, Turkmen and Kurdish population, lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

9 wounded in car bomb blast in Ba'aquba

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Nine people were killed in a car bomb blast in central Ba'aquba district on Friday, according to a local police source in Diala.

“Nine were wounded within an initial count of casualties from an earlier car bomb attack near the Firefighting & Civil Defense Department in New Baaquba neighborhood, in the central part of the district,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The New Ba'aquba neighborhood has been the scene for several attacks during the past years, the recent of which was in mid-August, when a car bomb blast went off near a vehicle of the Diala governor’s guards, leaving two killed and four others wounded.

Baaquba, the capital city of the troubled province of Diala, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.
