6 Pakistanis Killed, 18 Injured in Taliban Suicide Attack on Police Van in Bannu City

November 30, 2010

Bomb blast kills six in NW Pakistan

Press TV, Tuesday, November 30, 2010, 11:5AM

Pakistani police on the outskirts of Bannu city (file photo) At least six people including two children have been killed and 18 others wounded in a bomb attack in Bannu city in northwest Pakistan.

A suicide bomber attacked a police van near City Police Station in Bannu city on Tuesday, a Press TV correspondent quoted official and local sources as saying.

Five kilograms of explosive materials were used in the blast, officials said.

According to local sources, Pakistani security forces also arrested several suspected people from the area during search operation. After the blast, the security forces cordoned off the whole area and started their search operation.

The injured people were shifted to a nearby local hospital.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but Taliban militants frequently bomb government security forces in the northwest.

Around 4,000 people have been killed in suicide and bomb attacks across Pakistan since government forces raided a mosque in Islamabad in 2007.

The attacks have been blamed on Taliban and al-Qaeda-linked networks.
