ADC Requests Information About Your Airport Experiences

Washington, DC | November 29, 2010 | www.adc.org --

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) requests its members to report on their experiences with the full body scanners or pat-down searches at airports around the country.  As you are aware, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) implemented those new procedures earlier in the month.  We recognize that airport security and the safety of the public are very important and are pressing priorities; however, they should not be exercised at the expense of our American constitutional rights and liberties.  Accordingly, ADC is extremely concerned by the intrusive nature and public imaging or display of the scanners and pat-down measures, their infringement on privacy rights and civil liberties, and compromising of other constitutional prohibitions.

As to what members of the public should currently expect at the airport, news media has reported the following TSA information.

Should you encounter difficulty with TSA agents, please document the experience (with as much detail as possible, including the name of the airport, the time of the incident, the names of the TSA employees involved, among any other information), and email your account to the ADC Legal Department at legal@adc.org.

Should you also believe that you have been unlawfully discriminated against or profiled by a TSA employee, email TSA’s External Compliance Division in the Office of Civil Rights at TSA.OCR-ExternalCompliance@dhs.gov; or contact the TSA’s Office of Civil Rights by calling 1-877-336-4872, or e-mailing TSA.Civilrights@dhs.gov.

ADC wishes its members safe travels, and hopes to hear from you about your experiences at airports around the country.  Getting your stories and documenting your experiences will help us advocate for other and more reasonable measures that would enhance airport security without compromising privacy rights and civil liberties.
