2 NATO Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan War Attacks November 17, 2010 NATO: 2 service members killed in Afghanistan Reuters – Thu Nov 18, 12:17 am ETKABUL, Afghanistan – NATO says two service members have died in southern Afghanistan. The coalition said that one died in a bomb explosion and the other was killed in an insurgent attack. Both died on Wednesday. NATO's statement on Thursday did not disclose further details about their deaths. Thirty-nine NATO service members have been killed so far this month in Afghanistan, including at least 33 Americans. British Ministry of Defense. British soldier shot dead in Afghanistan: ministry – Wed Nov 17, 4:56 pm ET LONDON (AFP) – A British soldier died from a gunshot wound sustained while on patrol in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence said Wednesday, raising the country's military death toll there since 2001 to 345. The soldier from 1st Battalion Irish Guards died after being ambushed in the Nahr-e Saraj area in northern Helmand Province. The soldier's next of kin have been informed. Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Lieutenant Colonel David Eastman, said: "The soldier was carrying out vital work mentoring an Afghan National Army patrol...when he was struck by small arms fire. "Our thoughts are very much with his family and friends at this deeply sad time." Britain has almost 10,000 troops in the war-ravaged country, the second largest contingent after the United States, with most of them deployed in volatile Helmand.
