PESHAWAR:

Taliban fighters attacked a police checkpost situated in the jurisdiction of the Mansehra Police Station on Friday, killing four policemen and critically injuring one, police said. The gunmen sprayed bullets at policemen sheltering from rain inside a checkpost building in Ghazi Kot town in Mansehra district.

 “Four policemen were killed on the spot, while the injured policeman is still unconscious,” Zulfiqar Jadoon, a police official said. “This is a clear act of terrorism,” Jadoon said. The gunmen arrived in a vehicle and fled after the attack, he added. staff report/afp
    
Five killed as choppers pound Taliban hideouts in Orakzai

HANGU/MINGORA/BARA:

Choppers pounded suspected hideouts of the Taliban in various areas of Upper and Lower Orakzai Agency on Friday, killing five terrorists, sources said.

According to the sources, the shelling was carried out in Chappar Masti Khel and Kole Bargan areas. Two Taliban hideouts were also d Taliban fighters estroyed in the attack.

Separately, police arrested four Taliban fighters during a search operation. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Operations) Qadeer Khan Khattak said an Afghan refugee, Muhammad Zaman Mengal, believed to be the ringleader of a gang involved in various crimes, was arrested along with three accomplices.

Separately in Swat, four Taliban fighters were killed, while another five surrendered to security forces in different parts of the Swat Valley, sources said.

According to the sources, three Taliban fighters including an alleged mentor of suicide bombers were killed during a clash with security forces in Hayatabad, on the outskirts of Mingora.

The killed Taliban fighters were identified as Qari Abdullah, close aide of Maulana Fazlullah, Barkat alias Anees and Sajjad.

Separately, security forces arrested 10 Taliban fighters during a search operation in the Khyber Agency, sources said on Friday.

According to the sources, the operation was carried out in Shalobar area of the Bara tehsil.
          
Two soldiers, six militants killed in IHK

SRINAGAR:

Two Indian Army soldiers and six suspected militants were killed Friday during a fierce gun battle triggered by a raid in Indian-held Kashmir (IHK), the Indian military said.

Fighting erupted late Thursday night in densely forested Rafiabad, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of Srinagar, after army troops and police received information about the presence of militants in the area, Col Vineet Sood said.

Six militants and two soldiers died, and searches were continuing despite heavy rains, Sood told The Associated Press.

In a telephone call Friday to Current New Service, a local news agency, a man who identified himself as a spokesman for Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, IHK’s biggest militant group, said four of the guerrillas killed belonged to his group.

The man, who gave his name as Ahsan Ilahi, told the news agency that three soldiers were also killed in the fighting.

Hizb-ul-Mujahideen is one of a dozen militant groups fighting Indian rule in the disputed Himalayan region.

On Wednesday, rebels ambushed an army patrol in the restive region, killing two soldiers. agencies
