Chomsky Meets Hizbullah Leader In Lebanon, Nabil Al-Qaouq, After Israeli Repulsion

International condemnation for barring Chomsky from entering the West Bank

[ 22/05/2010 - 08:32 AM ]

VIENNA, (PIC)--

Reporters Without Borders organization has expressed astonishment at the Israeli authorities step of barring entry of renowned Jewish-American scholar Noam Chomsky into the West Bank last Sunday.

The organization said in a statement on Friday that the ban was not in the interest of Israel's record of freedom of expression and tolerance.

It said that any critic of Israeli politics should have the right to express his views on Palestinian lands, adding that the step reflected to what extent Israel was not accepting views counter to what it believes in.

Chomsky arrived in Jordan on Sunday 16/5 along with his daughter Aviva and two of his friends. He tried to enter the West Bank but the Israeli occupation authority detained him at the border terminal between Jordan and the West Bank and after hours of questioning by border officials, Chomsky's passport was stamped with "Denied Entry" and he was sent away.

Chomsky is a professor of linguistics at the US Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a prominent critic of US foreign policy. He has also frequently spoken out against Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories.

Chomsky Meets Hizbullah Leader In Lebanon, Nabil Al-Qaouq

Saturday May 22, 2010 02:30 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC

American Professor Noam Chomsky held a meeting on Friday with a senior official of the Lebanon-based Hizbullah party, and discussed several issues regarding the Middle East conflict, Israel and the United States policies.

Chomsky, an American linguist, philosopher, political activists and a cognitive scientist, said during the meeting that the Israeli war against Lebanon in 2006 came under an American decision in this regard.

Chomsky met with Nabil Qaouq, a senior Hizbullah official in charge of the party in southern Lebanon.

He said that he fears that the Zionist-Christian movement and the Zionist Lobby in the United States are having bigger effects on U.S polices.

Chomsky tried to visit Palestine several days ago but Israel held him at the Al-Karama Border Crossing with Jordan, and deported him to Amman.

Qaouq said that the U.S weapons sent to Israel are the source of danger in the region, and that Israel’s ongoing threats are causing further tensions in the region.

He added that the American stances and polices against the party are based on Israel’s stances and its interests.

The Hizbullah official further stated the fighters will remain ready and alert against any possible aggression or escalation.

Hizbullah Calls For Readiness Ahead Of Israeli Drill

Saturday May 22, 2010 05:53 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC & Agencies

Shaikh Nabil Al-Qaouq, representative of the Hizbullah party in southern Lebanon, stated that the fighters of the party will remain alert ahead of Israel’s large-scale military drill which is slated to begin this Sunday.

“The Hizbullah fighters have (been instructed) to be completely ready to confront Israeli maneuvers on Sunday. A few thousands of our fighters will not go to the polls (to participate in municipal elections in southern Lebanon) and are ready (for anything) today.", the Al-Manar news agency, run by Hizbullah reported.

Although Israeli leaders said that this drill was planned in advanced and not intended as a sign for an approaching war, Shaikh Al-Qaouq said that “should Israel decide to conduct a new aggression against Lebanon, the Israelis will have no place to hide”, Al-Manar said.

His statements came during his meeting with Professor Noam Chomsky, at Qaouq’s home in Tyre.

The Israeli occupation government denied Chomsky entry to the occupied Palestinian territories several days ago as he was trying to go to Ramallah.

Deputy Defense Ministry of the Israeli occupation government, Matan Vilani, said that the drill, dubbed Turning Point 4, is meant to ensure Israel’s Home Front Command is ready for a possible conflict,.

Vilnai added that Israel is preparing for the possibility that it will be attacked by hundreds of missiles from different countries.

The drill includes sounding the sirens in Israel and, air and ground drills. The drill will be conducted this coming Wednesday.

Israeli military and security officials said that they believe Hezbollah owns more than 40,000 rockets, and that its managed to develop its military capability after the second Lebanon war.

Hizbullah officials said that the party will retaliate to any Israel attack, and that the fighters will not allow Israel to violate Lebanon’s sovereignty .

Last month, President of the Israeli occupation government, Shimon Peres, accused Syria of transferring Scud missiles to Hizbullah. Both Syria and Hizbullah denied the Israeli claims.
