Illegal Israeli Settler Attacks a Palestinian Woman in Shaikh Jarrah, Jerusalem, with a Heavy Tool, Breaks her Nose

J'lem woman says broken nose from settler assault

Published today (updated) 13/05/2010 12:33 Jerusalem – Ma'an –

Following her release from hospital, a 32 year old Palestinian woman from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Shaikh Jarrah reported being assaulted by an illegal Israeli settler on Wednesday afternoon.

Mother of five and Shaikh Jarran resident Hamlat Al-Mughrabi was admitted to the Augusta Victoria Hospital on Wednesday evening with a broken nose, saying a settler had hit her in the face with a heavy tool and ran away.

When Al-Mughrabi was released, her face was still badly bruised and her nose in a splint. She said she did not call the police when the incident occurred, but proceeded strait to the hospital.

Reports assaults of Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah have skyrocketed in recent weeks, with families increasingly reluctant to inform Israeli police, saying that more often than not, relatives of the complaining family are detained by officers, and offending settlers or their right-wing supporters are almost never apprehended.
