Russian security services kill 3 members of group behind Moscow bombings

GORKI, May 13, 2010, (RIA Novosti)

Three members of a criminal group involved in the March 29 terrorist attacks on the Moscow subway have been killed, Federal Security Service chief Alexander Bortnikov said on Thursday.

The three killed were members of a group, which included people who had accompanied the suicide bombers on their way to Moscow and one of them to the site of the terrorist attack," he said at a meeting with President Dmitry Medvedev.

"Unfortunately, we did not manage to detain them alive, they offered fierce armed resistance and were eliminated," he added.

Dagestan blast kills 8 members of maintenance crew

MAKHACHKALA, May 13, 2010 (RIA Novosti)


Eight people died in Dagestan on Thursday when a vehicle carrying workers to repair a television broadcast antenna was blown up, local police said.

The TV facility had been attacked and the police official said police officers were the intended target of the bombing.
"During the pursuit of the gang that attacked the TV relay tower, four police officers received minor injuries," the police officer said, adding that the information on casualties was being confirmed.
