Ahmadinejad Stresses Iran's Friendship with American People

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

TEHRAN (FNA)-

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reiterated on Wednesday that despite the US statesmen's improper attitude and cruel treatment of the Iranian nation in the last few decades, Iran is still a friend of the American people.

"Nobody should think that we feel grudge for the American people because the US statesmen have oppressed the Iranian nation in consecutive decades (in the past)," Ahmadinejad said, addressing a gathering of Iranian ambassadors to foreign countries.

The United States and Iran broke diplomatic relations in April 1980, after Iranian students seized the United States' espionage center at its embassy in Tehran. The two countries have had tense relations ever since.

Ahmadinejad reiterated that Iran is in pursuit of good relations with all the world countries, and added, "Iran's foreign policy is based on the promotion of relationships with the world" except for a number of states which may insist on enmity with Iranian nation.

Meantime, the Iranian president reminded that Tehran will never recognize the Zionist regime and considers the regime as basically fake and illegal.

Israel is viewed as an arch foe and a sworn enemy of the Islamic Republic and Tehran has refrained to recognize the Israeli regime ever since the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979.
