U.S. Informs Abbas Of Obama-Netanyahu Meeting Failure

Friday March 26, 2010 19:40 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC & Agencies

The United States Administration officially informed Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, of the failure of the meeting that took place between American President, Barack Obama, and Israeli occupation settler government so-called prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.

President Obama could and his aides could not convince Netanyahu to stop settlement activities in the occupied territories and in occupied East Jerusalem.

Palestinian Presidency Spokesperson, Nabil Abu Rodeina, told the French Press Agency that Abbas held a meeting in Amman on Thursday evening with David Hale, the assistance of U.S. Special Middle East Envoy, George Mitchell.

Hale told Abbas that Obama and Netanyahu did not reach an agreement on halting settlement activities in East Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Abu Rodeina added that Hale assured Abbas that the U.S Administration will continue its efforts, and will inform the Palestinian Authority of any developments.

A White House spokesperson said that all talks between the U.S and Israel ended in failure, and that Israel insists on building settlements in occupied East Jerusalem.

Netanyahu and Obama agree continuation of the illegal Israeli settlement activities in Palestinian Jerusalem

[ 26/03/2010 - 09:41 PM ]

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)--

A high ranking Israeli official revealed that Benjamin Netanyahu and Barack Obama are in agreement regarding the building of settlements in occupied east Jerusalem.

"We've come back from the US with understandings that on the one hand the policy of building in Jerusalem will not change and on the other Israel is ready to take measures to move the political process forward," said Nir Hefetz, head of the National Information Directorate at the Prime Minister's Office, in a statement on Friday to Israeli army radio.

Hefetz denied reports published in some Israeli newspapers about Obama asking Netanyahu to handover control of some West Bank areas to the PA in Ramallah.

He further explained that the only difference between Netanyahu and Obama was around the US request for an extension of settlement freeze in the West Bank to more than the ten months the Israeli government agreed last November.
