Woman killed, man wounded in Falluja armed attack

ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq: One woman was killed and a man was injured in an armed attack in Falluja City, a local police source said on Sunday.

“Today, unknown gunmen attacked the house of Rabie al-Luhaybi, a Sahwa member, in al-Laheeb area, Karma district (eastern Falluja),” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. One woman was killed and a man was wounded in the attack, the source pointed out.

Falluja, the largest city in Anbar, lies 45 km west of Baghdad; while Ramadi, the capital city of the province, lies 110 km west of Baghdad.

2 Iraqi soldiers wounded in Mosul blast

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: Two Iraqi servicemen have been injured in an explosive charge blast in Mosul City, a local security source said on Sunday.

“Today, an improvised explosive device (IED) hit an Iraqi army patrol near Mushayrafa village, western Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The blast wounded two soldiers and caused damage to one of the vehicles, the source noted.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Policeman found dead in Falluja

ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq: Police forces on Sunday found a body belonging to a policeman in Falluja City, a local security source said.

“The body, which bore signs of gunshot wounds to the head, was found in al-Sinaa al-Qadeema area, Saqlawiya district (northern Falluja),” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Falluja, the largest city in Anbar, lies 45 km west of Baghdad; while Ramadi, the capital of the province, lies 110 km west of Baghdad.

Labor Ministry official survives attempt on life

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: A director general in the Ministry of Labor has survived an assassination attempt in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, a local police source said on Sunday.

“Unknown gunmen opened fire on a motorcade carrying Hossam Abdullateef, the director general of the Social Care Department in the Ministry of Labor, on Mohammad al-Qassem highway, eastern Baghdad,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The blast wounded the driver, the source noted.

Cop killed, 2 wounded in Baghdad blast

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: One Iraqi policeman was killed and two others were wounded in a blast in the capital Baghdad, a police source said on Sunday.

“This morning, an explosive device went off near Tho al-Tabiqeen Bridge in downtown Baghdad while a police patrol was passing the location, killing one cop and wounding two others,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: One Iraqi policeman has been injured in a hand grenade blast in Mosul City, a local security source said on Saturday.

“This evening, a hand grenade hit a Federal Police patrol in al-Zanjali area, western Mosul, wounding one patrolman,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The source did not provide more details.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

2 civilians wounded in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq: Two civilians were injured when unknown gunmen broke into a jewelry store in downtown Kirkuk, a local police director said on Saturday.

“On Saturday, unknown gunmen clad in facility protection police uniform broke into a jewelry store in downtown Kirkuk,” Brig. Sarhad Qader told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. The gunmen had wounded two brothers before they fled to an unknown destination, the official pointed out.

Kirkuk, an oil-rich and mixed city of Kurds, Turkmen, Christians and Arabs, lies 250 km northeast of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

5 civilians wounded in Baghdad blast

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Five civilians were wounded in an improvised explosive device attack in central Baghdad on Saturday, an Iraqi police source said.

“The IED went off inside a passenger vehicle in al-Allawi area, central Baghdad, leaving five civilians wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The explosion also caused severe damage to the vehicle,” he added.

2 civilians killed, another wounded in Saadiya

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq: Two civilians were killed and another wounded when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a gathering north of Baaquba city on Friday, a local security source in Diala said.

“Unidentified gunmen opened fire at a gathering of civilians in al-Nada area, al-Saadiya district, (100 km) north of Baaquba, killing two and wounding another,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The gunmen escaped to an unknown place after their attack while the wounded was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he said, not giving further details about the incident.

The same source also said that policemen on Friday found an unidentified body of a young man in his 20s near al-Aasriya villa, south of Saadiy.

“The body showed signs of having been shot in the head and chest. The young man’s garments and other things found with the body indicated that he was a farmer,” the source added, noting the body was removed to a hospital morgue in the city.

Baaquba, the capital city of the restive province of Diala, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

Gunmen wound civilian in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: One civilian was wounded on Friday when he came under gunmen’s fire in eastern Mosul city, according to a security source.

“The victim, who owns an ice cream factory at al-Thawra neighborhood in eastern Mosul, was seriously wounded,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He said that the 25-year-old victim has been hospitalized, and is currently in a critical condition.

The source did not mention further details.

Bomb kills soldier, wounds 3 in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: One Iraqi soldier was killed and three more were wounded on Friday in a bomb blast in western Mosul, according to a police source.

“An improvised explosive device went off targeting an army vehicle patrol in 17 Tamouz neighborhood in western Mosul, killing a soldier and injuring three others,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The blast damaged their vehicle,” he added, without giving further details.

Gunmen kill cop in southern Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: A policeman was killed on Friday morning by gunmen inside his house in southern Baghdad, a police source said.

“Unknown armed men stormed the house of a policeman, while on his vacation, in al-Doura neighborhood in southern Baghdad, opening fire on him, killing him instantly,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“They fled to unknown place,” he added.

Civilian wounded by roadside bomb blast in Baghdad

“The bomb exploded on the main street in al-Tarmiya region, northern Baghdad, injuring one civilian, who was carried to a nearby hospital for treatment,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, giving no further details.

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: One civilian was killed and six others were wounded in an improvised explosive device blast in eastern Baghdad on Friday, a police source said.

“The bomb exploded near al-Sajad mosque in Sadr City, eastern Baghdad, killing a civilian and injuring six,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Security forces sealed off the explosion area, while ambulances rushed the wounded to the nearby al-Sadr hospital for treatment,” he added.

2 bullet-riddled bodies found in Ninewa

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq: Police forces found two unknown bodies in southeast of Mosul, according to a security source.

“The forces found the bullet-riddled bodies late Thursday (March 18) in a village in al-Namroud district in southeast of Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The corpses bore signs of gunshot wounds to the head and the chest,” he added.

“They were sent to the forensic medicine department,” the source said.

Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.
