Zionist-Controlled Quartet Issues Phone Calls for Israelis and Palestinians to Adhere to Defunct Road Map

Editor's Note:

The Quartet composed of representatives of the US, EU, Russia, and UN has issued a call for Israelis and Palestinians to adhere to the defunct Road Map of the Bush administration. The hypocrisy of the participants in this forum is disgusting. They never had the decency to point to the Israeli occupation government as the party which stopped the peace process by continuous illegal settlement activities on Palestinian lands.

The US, EU, and Russia can do better than these crippled calls. They can stop their diplomatic, financial, and military support for the racist, Apartheid, and Zionist regime. Only then, the Israeli occupation government may respond positively to the calls of the Quartet for the continuation of the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations for another century, without any results of course.

We're living in the Zionist era indeed.

Quartet demands real settlement freeze

Bethlehem - Ma'an -

P

In Moscow, the International Quartet reiterated on Friday its call for Israelis and Palestinians to implement their previous agreements and obligations, in particular adherence to the Road Map peace plan.

"The Quartet urges the government of Israel to freeze all settlement activity, including natural growth, dismantle outposts erected since March 2001; and to refrain from demolitions and evictions in East Jerusalem," a statement issued after the meeting said.

The Quartet, made up of the US, UN, EU and Russia, also called on both sides to "observe calm and restraint and to refrain from provocative actions and inflammatory rhetoric especially in areas of cultural and religious sensitivity."

The statement recalled that Israel's annexation of East Jerusalem remained unrecognized by the international community, and underscored that the status of Jerusalem is a permanent-status issue that must be resolved through negotiations between the parties. It condemned Israel's move to advance planning for new housing units in the occupied part of the city.

Ban Ki-moon: 24-months for Palestinian state

Later Friday, a statement read by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was released. Ban reiterated the timeframe of the Quartet, of 24-months for the establishment of a Palestinian state.

"The Quartet believes these negotiations should lead to a settlement negotiated between the parties within 24 months that ends the occupation which began in 1967 and results in the emergence of an independent, democratic, and viable Palestinian state living side by side in peace and security with Israel and its other neighbors," Ban read.

To reach the establishment of a Palestinian state, Ban requested "all states to support dialogue between the parties," amidst calls from around the Middle East and inside Palestine to cease.

Also essential, Ban said, was "adherence to the roadmap irrespective of reciprocity to promote an environment conducive to successful negotiations." With a commitment to the roadmap, Ban said, "unilateral actions taken by either party cannot prejudge the outcome of negotiations, and will not be recognized by the international community."

Ban said he would attend the upcoming Arab League Summit in Libya on 27 March, and talk to Arab world leaders about what he called the "absolutely necessary" proximity talks.
