Israeli occupation forces clash with Palestinian protestors in West Bank RAMALLAH, March 13, 2010 (Xinhua) -- Israeli occupation soldiers on Saturday fired rubber bullets and tear gas at Palestinian demonstrators at a crossing between Ramallah and Jerusalem, injuring several people, witnesses said. The soldiers manning Qalandia checkpoint arrested a demonstrator and wounded two others when the protestors tried to pass forcibly through the roadblock, a Xinhua photographer said. The women wing of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) called for the rally to protest against Israel's decision to include two West Bank shrines in its Jewish heritage list. Following the tension, Israel sealed off Qalandia crossing before Palestinian travelers. Meanwhile, witnesses said that Israeli soldiers stopped three journalists and beat a fourth when Palestinians and international peace activists demonstrated near Hebron, a city in southern West Bank where Cave of Patriarchs (Abraham Sanctuary), one of the sites Israel plans to add to its Jewish places' list, stands. Last month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved a government declaration, which considers Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem and the Cave of the Patriarchs (Sanctuary of Abraham) in Hebron as Jewish sites. They are sacred to both Muslims and Jews. Fair Use Notice This site contains copyrighted material the use of which has not always been specifically authorized by the copyright owner.
