Israeli Court Releases Shaikh Salah on Bail, But Puts him Under House Arrest [ 03/06/2010 - 11:07 AM ] OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The Israeli occupation government central court in Asqalan (which Israelis call Ashkalon in an attempt to dismiss its original Palestinian Arab name) on Thursday ordered the release of Shaikh Raed Salah, the leader of the Islamic movement in 1948 occupied Palestine, and his colleagues on certain conditions. The court ordered the release of Sheikh Salah, Mohammed Zeidan, Hamad Abu Daabas and Lubna Masarwa but after paying a bail of around 40,000 dollars each that would be paid in the event they violated the court conditions, which include putting them under house arrest for five days and barring them from traveling abroad. The sudden ruling followed the Israeli magistrate court's earlier verdict a couple of days ago to extend their custody for eights days. The Israeli prosecution leveled a number of charges against the detainees including planning to commit a crime, presence at a crime scene, endangering lives of Israeli soldiers, possessing and using weapons. A big number of supporters of the Islamic movement and 1948 activists grouped in front of the court since the early morning hours while a number of Israelis arrived to the scene and insulted the Arabs, as Israeli policemen deployed in the area to prevent any possible friction between the two sides.
