Peace Activists Attacked by Israeli Occupation Soldiers in Ni'lin, Bil'in During Protest Against the Illegal Israeli Land-Grab, Apartheid Wall

[ 26/06/2010 - 10:39 AM ]

RAMALLAH, (PIC)--

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) attacked different peaceful anti-wall marches on Friday in West Bank villages. Injuries and breathing problems were reported during the attacks.

In Bil'in village, as the protesters were marching towards the segregation wall, the IOF troops fired tear gas and stun grenades and rubber bullets at them, which led to the injury of one participant and caused dozens of suffocation cases.

The Israeli gunfire also caused fire in vast tracts of Palestinian agricultural lands in the village.

The protesters chanted slogans condemning the deportation policy pursued by Israel against the Palestinian people in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

For their part, the villagers of Ni'lin and foreign activists marched towards the apartheid wall in the village and erected a Palestinian flag on the wall in solidarity with the olive trees which Israeli troops set ablaze last week.

The protesters clashed with the troops after they aggressively attacked their march and fired grenades and rubber bullets at them.

The IOF troops also attacked similar anti-wall marches in Masarah village and Wadi Rahal area in Bethlehem, and Nabi Saleh village in Ramallah.

Israeli Occupation Soldiers Attack Weekly Protest In Ni’lin

Saturday June 26, 2010 02:42 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC News

As Palestinian residents in Ni’lin village, near the central West Bank city of Ramallah, held their weekly nonviolent protest against the illegal Israeli Land-Grab, Apartheid Wall, joined by International peace activists, Israeli occupation soldiers attacked them and fired gas bombs and rubber coated bullets at them.

Several nonviolent protestors received treatment after inhaling gas fired by the army.

The protestors placed a lowered Palestinian flag at the Wall to express “mourning” after the army burnt at least 15 olive trees that belong to resident Jamil Canaan Ameera, last week.

The soldiers responded by firing dozens of gas bombs at the local and international nonviolent protestors, leading to a number of injuries.

Local protestors burnt tires to protest the torching of their olive trees, as the attacks to their fields have become more frequent.

Soldiers then opened the gates of the annexation wall and chased the protestors; no arrests were reported.

10 Protestors Wounded In Bil’in Weekly Protest

Saturday June 26, 2010 02:58 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC News

The Friends of Freedom and Justice (FFJ) in Bil’in, near the central West Bank city of Ramallah, reported Friday that at least ten protestors suffered the effects of tear-gas inhalation after Israeli occupation soldiers fired dozens of gas bombs at them during their weekly nonviolent protest against the illegal Israeli Land-Grab, Apartheid Wall.

This week’s protest carried the message of “Israeli Blood Diamonds”, as consumers spend billions of dollars annually on diamonds crafted in Israel, while the Palestinians call for boycott.

“Palestinians, Israelis and internationals marched together up to the gate of the wall, facing large amounts of tear gas before the soldiers went in through the gate and chased the protesters some hundred meters towards the village”, the FFJ reported.

The FFJ said that Israel is considered the world’s largest exporter of diamonds, while at the same times practices genocide, apartheid, extrajudicial executions against the Palestinians and confiscates their land to build Jewish-only settlements.

“Today the villagers carried t-shirts and posters asking to boycott Israel’s diamond industry. About 100 demonstrators went up to the gate, carrying out the message, in a non violent manner”, the FFJ said. “Another message was solidarity with the Palestinians in Jerusalem, facing eviction from their homes and constant violence from Israeli settlers taking over their houses”.

The army responding by firing tear gas at the residents, and even chased the residents and the peace activists while heading back to the village, and fired more gas at them. Dozens received treatment after inhaling gas fired by the army; at least ten suffered heavily and could not breathe.

The gas bombs also caused fires as they were fired at dry lands and at the sides of the roads. The fire spread fast among olive trees while the residents tried to extinguish it. The residents managed to control the fire and extinguished it.
