German Law Expert, Norman Peach, to Prosecute Israeli Apartheid State for its Deadly Attack on Flotilla Convoy

German law expert to prosecute Israel for its deadly attack on Flotilla convoy

 [ 10/06/2010 - 08:07 AM ]

BERLIN, (PIC)--

German international law expert Norman Peach, one of the participants in the Freedom Flotilla convoy, said he intends to file a lawsuit in his country against the  Israeli occupation apartheid government for killing and wounding dozens of civilians aboard the convoy ships.

Professor Peach, a former left-wing lawmaker, told Al-Jazeera net on Wednesday that his prosecution of Israel in German courts would be a prelude to bringing multiple lawsuits with international courts against it.

The professor considered Israel’s deadly attack on the convoy as a war crime from the standpoint of international law.

He pointed out that although Israel did not sign the charter of the international criminal court, but Turkey, whose nine of its nationals were killed in the attack, can get the UN Security Council move to urge this court to open an investigation into what happened.

The law expert also denied that Israel’s soldiers acted in self-defense, saying this is untrue and a gross distortion of facts.

He affirmed that the Israeli intelligence watched around the clock the ships as they were being loaded with aid in Ireland, Athens and Istanbul and was sure there were no weapons on board.

In a related context, the European campaign to end the siege said it started to get a Swiss ship prepared for its participation in the second Freedom Flotilla convoy expected to sail for Gaza in the coming weeks.

Representative of the campaign in Switzerland Anwar Gharbi stated that at the end of a week of massive sit-ins and protests outside the UN headquarters in Geneva, it was announced that this ship would participate in the convoy.

Gharbi added that following the announcement, dozens of Swiss politicians, athletes and celebrities supported the ship financially.

In another incident, the Palestinian assembly in Italy in coordination with the Palestinian community in Lombardia, Muslim communities and many Italian institutions organized Tuesday a massive protest in the city of Milan in protest at Israel’s attack on Freedom Flotilla and in solidarity with the besieged Gaza people.

Thousands of people including two of the Italian participants in Freedom Flotilla convoy went on the march.

Similar protests also took place in different Italian cities including Rome.
