Multiple attacks kill 16 in Baghdad

Back-to-back violent incidents in the Iraqi capital have reportedly claimed the lives of at least 16 people, inflicting injuries on 14 others.

The attacks occurred in Baghdad's Al-A'adhamiya district on Thursday, AFP reported, citing the country's Interior Ministry. There were nine Iraqi security forces among the fatalities. HN/MGH

Unknown body found in Mosul

Policemen in Ninewa found an unidentified body showing signs of having been shot in southern Mosul city on Thursday, according to a local security source.

“The police found the body of a man in his 20s and showing signs of having been shot in the head in the area of al-Okaidat, southern Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He did not give more details.

Mosul, the capital city of the violence-ridden multi-ethnic province of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

3 IED blasts in Al-A'adhamiya leave army soldiers killed

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

A number of Iraqi army soldiers were killed in an attack with three improvised explosive devices in the area of Al-A'adhamiya in Baghdad on Thursday, according to a senior security spokesman.

“An unidentified number of army servicemen were killed today (July 29) in an attack with three IEDs,” according to Maj. General Qassem Atta, the official spokesman for the Baghdad Operations Command (BOC) in statements to Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The explosions also left a military vehicle ablaze and caused severe damage to two police vehicles,” he added.

Atta did not give further details.

Sticky bomb leaves 3 casualties in Ninewa

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

One policeman was killed and two others were wounded in a sticky bomb blast in the south of Mosul, a police source said on Thursday.

“A sticky bomb went off on Thursday (July 29) morning targeting a civilian motorcade of Brigadier Daham al-Juburi, a police officer, in al-Qayara district, south of Mosul, killing a cop and injuring two others, from his bodyguards,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Police officer, Sahwa leader gunned down in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

A police officer and a Sahwa leader were killed by gunmen in southern Baghdad on Thursday, an official source said.

“Four gunmen opened fire on a police officer, Ali Talaa, from the protecting establishments force, and the Sahwa leader, Ramadan Ibrahim, in al-Ray region in al-Shurta al-Khamesa district, southern Baghdad, killing them instantly,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The gunmen fled to unknown place,” he added.

6 people killed, wounded by roadside bomb in Falluja

ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq:

One soldier was killed and five more were wounded by a roadside bomb blast in northern Falluja on Thursday, according to a security source.

“The bomb exploded on Thursday (July 29) targeting an army vehicle patrol in al-Sajr region in al-Saqlawiya district, northern Falluja, killing a soldier and injuring five, including three soldiers and two civilians,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Falluja, Anbar province, is 45 km west of Baghdad, while Ramadi, the capital of Anbar, lies 110 km west of the Iraqi capital.

Suicide attack kills 3, injures 11 in al-Shurqat

SALAH AL-DIN / Aswat al-Iraq:

At least three soldiers were killed and 11 others were wounded on Thursday in a suicide attack in al-Shurqat district, north of Tikrit, according to a security source.

“A suicide bomber blew up a car crammed with explosives on Thursday (July 29) targeting an Iraqi army vehicle patrol in al-Sahel al-Aysar region in al-Shurqat district,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The explosion killed three soldiers and injured 11,” the source added.

Shurqat lies 100 km north of Tikrit, the capital city of Salah al-Din, which is 175 km north of Baghdad.

IED wounds 4 persons in Falluja

Four persons were wounded on Thursday in a bomb explosion in eastern Falluja, a security source said.

“An improvised explosive device went off on Thursday (July 29) near a checkpoint in eastern Falluja, injuring four people, including two policemen,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency,

Falluja, Anbar province, is located 45 km west of Baghdad.

Falluja mosque’s sheikh dies of wounds

ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq:

Sheikh Ihsan Abdulatief al-Douri has died of wounds he sustained in a bomb explosion on Wednesday, a medical source said on Thursday.

“The sheikh died on Thursday morning (July 29) of wounds he sustained yesterday when a bomb exploded near his car while he was leaving al-Rawi mosque in central Falluja,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

A police source had said that a bomb exploded near the car of Sheikh Ihsan Abdulatief in al-Andalus neighborhood, central Falluja, killing one person, and injuring eight, including two children.

The sheikh is a member of the Association of Muslims Scholars (AMS).

Falluja, Anbar province, lies 45 k west of Baghdad.
