2 US-Led Soldiers Killed in Helicopter Crash Inside Headquarters of Afghani army

Copter crash kills 2 US-led soldiers

Press TV, Mon, 26 Jul 2010, 07:04:23 GMT

Two US-led soldiers have been killed after their helicopter crashed inside the headquarters of the Afghani army in the Afghan capital, Kabul.

According to NATO spokesman Josef Blotz, two soldiers were killed when a helicopter belonging to US-led forces crashed near a military camp early Monday, DPA reported.

However, Katie Kendrick, spokesperson for the US-led forces, earlier had said the helicopter was forced to make a 'hard landing' and that only four people suffered minor injuries as a result of the accident.

She further pointed out that the cause of the crash was not known but a Press TV correspondent said it might have been caused by technical problems.

There was no immediate word on the nationality of the two soldiers on board the helicopter.

This is the second helicopter crash in Afghanistan since the beginning of July.

The previous crash took place outside Helmand provincial capital Lashkar Gah last Thursday where two more US-led soldiers were killed.

The United States has lost 1207 soldiers in Afghanistan since the 2001 invasion of the country to overthrow Taliban militants. The US-led operations have also left thousands of Afghan civilians dead.
