BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Casualties from Sunday’s earlier suicide bombing attack in al-Youssufiya area in Baghdad were 32 deaths and 20 others wounded, according to the Baghdad Operations Command (BOC) in a press release.

“A suicide bomber with an explosive belt blew himself up amidst a gathering of pro-government sahwa (awakening) tribal fighters just before a checkpoint in the village of al-Balasem, Youssufiya, leaving 32 killed and 20 others wounded,” read the BOC release as received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Earlier, a police source said the blast left 43 sahwa fighters killed and 40 others wounded.

IED blast in Baghdad leaves 4 killed

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three Iraqi army soldiers and one civilian man were killed when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted near the house of a pro-government sahwa (awakening) tribal fighter in western Baghdad went off on Sunday, a military source said.

“The IED, emplaced among others around the house of a sahwa fighter in Abu Ghraib area, western Baghdad, left three Iraqi servicemen and one civilian local resident killed,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The accident occurred when an Iraqi army force headed to the house of a sahwa fighter in the area of al-Zidan, Abu Ghraib district, to remove several IEDs planted around the fighter’s house,” he added.

“While the force were defusing the charges, one of them went off and caused others to explode, leaving that number of deaths and causing severe damage to the house and its surrounding areas,” he said.

Sahwa fighter killed in blast in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

One Sahwa fighter was killed on Sunday when his car was hit by a roadside bomb west of Baghdad.

“The blast occurred in the Abu-Ghraib area, west of Baghdad,” a local security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He did not mention further details, but noted that the victim died instantly.

2 injured in Katyusha attacks in Talafar

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two persons were wounded on Sunday when four Katyusha rockets hit two neighborhoods of the Talafar district, northwestern Ninewa province.

“The rockets hit al-Wahda neighborhood in central Talafar, and al-Qadissiya neighborhood in northern the district, 60 km northwest of Mosul city,” a local security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He noted that the rockets caused damage to a number of houses and cars within the two neighborhoods.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

3 killed, 7 wounded in Qaim suicide bombing

ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three killed and seven wounded is the toll of casualties caused by the suicide bombing on Sunday that targeted a Sahwa (Awakening) office in the al-Qaim district, western al-Anbar province.

“Three killed and seven wounded is the latest toll of casualties caused by this attack,” a local police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He explained that security forces have imposed a curfew on the al-Qaim, and have intensified security measures near police stations and security institutions in the district as precautionary preparations for any possible attacks.

Earlier, a local security source said that five Sahwa (Awakening) fighters were wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up in central al-Qaim district.

“The bomber was wearing an explosive vest on him,” the security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He noted that the bomber blew himself up near a Sahwa office in the al-Sooq al-Shaabi area of central al-Qaim, 289 km west of the Ramadi city.

“The five injuries represent a preliminary toll of casualties,” the source said soon after the attack.

Ramadi, the capital city of al-Anbar province, lies 110 west of Baghdad.

Forty-three killed and 40 wounded is the toll of casualties caused by the suicide bombing on Sunday that targeted Sahwa (Awakening) fighters in the al-Radhwaniya area, southwestern Baghdad.

“Forty-three killed and 40 wounded is the latest toll of casualties caused by this attack,” a local police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Earlier, a local security source said that seven Sahwa fighters were killed and 25 others wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up at the al-Ridhwaniya.

“The bomber had an explosive vest on him,” the security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He noted that the fighters were receiving their salaries when the bomber hit them.

“The bomber was wearing an explosive vest on him,” a local security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He noted that the bomber blew himself up near a Sahwa office in the al-Sooq al-Shaabi area of central al-Qaim, 289 km west of the Ramadi city.
