Two Injured at the Weekly Anti-Wall Protest in Bil段n Village

Two civilians, one Palestinian and an international peace activist, were injured by Israeli occupation soldiers who attacked the weekly  protest against the illegal Israeli Land-Grab, Apartheid Wall  at the village of Bil段n, central West Bank.

As has been the case every Friday for the past five years, villages joined by international and Israeli supporters marched from the village after the midday prayers.

The march was also joined by an EU delegation for monitoring Israeli army violations against protesters, lead by Mr. Thierry Vallat.

People headed towards the villager's land, where Israeli have built the wall. As soon as protesters reached the gate of the wall separating them from their land, troops fired tear gas and rubber-coated-steel bullets at them.

Two men, Ashraf al-Khatib and a European supporter, were hit with tear gas canisters.

Later, Israeli soldiers chased the demonstrators back to the village, were clashes between local youth and troops erupted. The clashes ended with no injuries reported.

The head of the Israeli District Co-ordination Office informed the village council of the new route of the Israeli wall last week.

The Popular Committee of Bil'in condemns the Israeli army detention of activists and leaders of Popular Committees in the West Bank. Last Wednesday, Feb 3rd 2010, Ibrahim Burnat (27 years old) was taken by Israeli troops from his house in Bil'in.

This week The Israeli authorities issued a conditional release of a member of the Popular Committee against the Wall and Settlement building, Mohammed al-Khatib, on bail of 10,000 Israeli Shekels, with the condition of not participating in any of the protests. He must appear at the nearest Israeli police station every Friday between 12:00- 5:00pm .

Israeli Occupation Soldiers Attack Anti-Settlement Construction Protest in Central West Bank

Three Palestinian villagers were injured when they were fired upon by Israel occupation soldiers, on Friday, at the village of Nabi Saleh, central West Bank.

The villagers of Nabi Saleh, along with their international and Israeli supporters, planed to march to the land of the villages taken by the illegal Israeli settlers of the nearby illegal settlement of Halmish.

Villagers had olive trees to be planted at the lands. As soon as people started to march, Israeli soldiers fired tear gas at them.

Local youth responded by hurling stones at the soldiers. Troops then fired rubber-coated-steel bullets, injuring three local youths.

After the clashes ended, Israeli occupation soldiers stormed the village of Nabi Saleh and fired tear gas at villager's homes.

On the other side of the village, undercover soldiers tried to detain local youths. When the men discovered the soldier's intentions, they ran and had live ammunition fired at them by the troops. No injuries were reported.

Nil段n痴 Weekly Protests Ends After Tear Gas Assault

Local villagers of Nil段n held their weekly non-violent protest, after Friday prayers, despite rainfall.

The villagers, who have held demonstrations against the construction of the illegal Israeli Land-Grab, Apartheid Wall that passes through their land, were joined by members of the international community and Israelis.

The group marched towards the gate in the wall, chanting slogans calling for an end to the construction of the annexation wall and settlements throughout the West Bank, managed to raise the Palestinian flag and block the gate.

The Israeli occupation soldiers threatened the protesters with the use of tear gas if they did not remove themselves, and followed through with their threat when their demands were not met.

Following, the firing of a volley of tear gas canisters, some local youths managed to throw back some of them. After this clash, the demonstration dispersed.

The protests in Nil段n, a village near the city of Ramallah, have taken place every Friday for the past 3 years.
