KARBALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Casualties from the powerful blast that targeted Shi'i visitors in Karbala earlier today rose to 23 dead and 147 wounded persons, a local medic said on Wednesday.

“Al-Husseini hospital received 10 bodies, including two belonging to children and 55 wounded persons, including two kids and 10 women; al-Nesaaiya hospital received one wounded woman; while al-Hindiya hospital, (20 km east of Karbala), received 13 corpses and 91 injured persons,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Earlier today, eyewitnesses said that a blast hit Fariha area, killing and wounding dozens of people.

Karbala is 110 km southwest of Baghdad.

KARBALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

At least seven persons were killed and 50 others were wounded in the blast that took place in Karbala on Wednesday morning, a medical source said. “A strong blast ripped through the city of Karbala this morning, killing seven and injuring 50, who were taken to al-Hussein hospital,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. “The number of casualties will increase as some of the wounded are in critical condition,” he explained, noting that some of the wounded people were taken to other hospitals. An eyewitness had said earlier that a powerful blast occurred this morning in Fariha region in. Karbala is 110 km southwest of Baghdad.

Attacks on U.S. base in Basra attacks on Iraqi government - source

BASRA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Attacks on U.S. base at the Basra International Airport are attacks on the Iraqi government, U.S. military public affairs official said on Wednesday. “Iraq has many enemies that would be happy to see Iraqi government losing,” the official told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. He said that Iraqi–U.S. forces will track down the attackers. The oil-rich city of Basra lies 590 km south of Baghdad.
