Health unions warn of Israeli blockade impacts on lives of Gaza patients [ 18/02/2010 - 10:50 AM ] GAZA, (PIC)-- The assembly of health unions in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday warned of the serious impacts of the Israeli blockade and the power crisis on the health sector and pointed out that the siege led to the death of 386 Gazans so far. The assembly told a news conference held in Al-Shifa hospital that a number of Palestinian children died of suffocation as a result of the use of malfunctioned power generators. It said that the Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza in cooperation with regional states destroyed its infrastructure especially the health sector. Dean of medical professions Abdu Mohsen Abu Al-Rous noted that the fuel crisis and the consequent power outages caused many surgical operations, oxygen stations and medical appliances to stop in hospitals. He appealed to the international community to urgently intervene and pressure Israel to lift its blockade on Gaza.
