US Soldier, 16 Iraqis Killed in War Attacks, Including 10 Civilians Killed by US Forces in Al-'Amara

Yaqen.net reported the following attacks today:

- A US vehicle was attacked by a roadside bomb on the road between Samarra and Tikrit, in Salahuddin Province.

- Four US-recruited Sahwa fighters were killed, a fifth was injured by a roadside bomb targeting their patrol north of Tikrit, between Al-Shurqat and Tikrit city.

- US forces killed ten Iraqis in Ali Al-Sharqi neighborhood, north of Al-'Amara city, seven of them from the same family. The killing started directly after US forces attempted to start a house search in the neighborhood.

One of the residents in the neighborhood fired on the air thinking that they were thieves breaking into his house. Then, US soldiers starting shooting at the family members killing seven of them instantly, injuring five more, and arresting 12 more. Three more Iraqis from other families were also killed by US forces.

- A US vehicle was targeted by two roadside bombs in Al-Khalis, north of Ba'aqouba, in Diala Province.

U.S. raid in Missan kills 10 – mayor

MISSAN / Aswat al-Iraq:

The death toll of the U.S. raid in al-Duwayjat village in north of Amara rose to 10, Amara mayor said on Friday.

“The death toll of the U.S. raid in al-Duwayjat village in Ali al-Sharqi district, north of Amara, rose to ten as three persons died of their wounds,” Rafia Abduljabar told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Five people were wounded in the operation, while 12 were arrested,” he added.

Director of the Ali al-Sharqi district, Ammar Abdullah, had said earlier that U.S. troops killed seven persons, from the same family, wounded two more and arrested 12 citizens in north of Amara.

“The Missan council will hold an urgent meeting this afternoon to discuss the incident,” he said.

No word was immediately available from the U.S. army on the incident.

Ali al-Sharqi lies 60 km north of Amara, the capital of Missan, which lies 390 km south of Baghdad.

First U.S. death in February

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

A U.S. soldier was killed in a reportedly non-combat incident on Wednesday (Feb. 10), the first U.S. fatality this month, upping the total number of U.S. deaths in Iraq to 4,376, according to the U.S. army in Iraq on Thursday.

“The non-combat incident is pending investigation,” said the U.S. army in a statement received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The statement did not give further details.

The death has brought to 4,376 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003, including 150 killed in 2009.

3 cops, 2 civilians injured in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Five persons were wounded on Friday in an improvised explosive device explosion in northeastern Baghdad, a police source said.

“The bomb, planted by gunmen near al-Sada al-Naeem mosque in al-Shaab neighborhood, northeastern Baghdad, went off targeting a police vehicle patrol, injuring three policemen and two civilians and damaging the vehicle,” the source, who asked for anonymity, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Security forces sealed off the area and carried the wounded to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he added.

3 family members wounded south of Falluja

ANBAR / Aswat al-Iraq:

Three people, from one family, were wounded on Friday when their house exploded in south of Falluja, according to a security source.

“Unknown gunmen on Friday morning (Feb. 12) blew up a house of a policeman in Albu Hawa village in al-Aamiriya district, south of Falluja, injuring three of his family,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency, pointing out that they were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Falluja, the largest city in Anbar, lies 45 km west of Baghdad; while Ramadi, the capital of the province, lies 110 km west of Baghdad.

Civilian wounded in IED blast in Touz Khormato, 4 AQI members nabbed

SALAH AL-DIN / Aswat al-Iraq:

A civilian man was wounded in an improvised explosive device blast in Touz Khormato district, where also four members of Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQ) network were arrested, a local police source said on Thursday.

“An IED blast wounded a civilian man in the village of al-Qahira,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Meanwhile the same source said that a police force conducted a search raid on the main road linking Soliman Bek to Touz Khormato, (100 km) northeast of Tikrit, arresting four AQI operatives on charges of involvement in acts of sabotage.

He did not give further details.

Tikrit, the capital city of Salah al-Din province, lies 175 km north of Baghdad.

Cop killed in attack on Mosul checkpoint

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A policeman was killed when gunmen attacked a checkpoint in western Mosul city on Thursday, a local police source in Ninewa said.

“Unidentified gunmen opened fire at the policemen in the area of Mosul al-Jadida, western Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The victim was inside the checkpoint when the gunmen emerged from the alleys of the neighborhood and waged their attack before escaping to an unknown place,” he added.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Young man killed in blast in northern Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A young man was killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in northern Mosul blast on Thursday, a local police source in Ninewa said.

“The 17-year-old civilian young man was killed when it went off near him as his friend who found out the charge rushed to notify an Iraqi army unit that was near the scene,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

Mosul, the capital city of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

2 civilians wounded in Baghdad blast

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two civilians have been injured in an explosive charge blast in the capital Baghdad, a police source said on Thursday.

“A roadside improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in al-Bayaa neighborhood, southwestern Baghdad, wounding two civilians,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Security forces sealed off the scene of the blast and rushed the wounded to al-Yarmuk Hospital for treatment, the source pointed out.
