GAZA, (PIC)--

A Palestinian resistance fighter was killed and a number of others were wounded when the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) targeted a group of them in Shujaia suburb east of Gaza city on Thursday.

Dr. Mu'awiya Hassanain told the PIC that Fares Jaber, 26, was killed in the shooting.

Local sources said that Jaber was a member of the Salahuddin Brigades, the armed wing of the popular resistance committees.

IOF troops advanced into eastern Gaza earlier today and shelled residential areas wounding a number of civilians.

Hassanain: No casualties as a result of IOF shelling

GAZA, (PIC)--

Dr. Muawiya Hassanain, head of emergency department at the Ministry of Health in Gaza, stated that there were no casualties as a result of IOFs shelling of the central Gaza Strip as claimed by the Israeli occupation forces.

"We confirm, after combing the scene of the attack and checking with the local residents who live west of  Kissufim, that there were no martyrs  or wounded as a result of the IOFs shelling [of the area]," Hassanain said in an exclusive statement to the PIC on Friday.

He called on Palestinian media outlets not to parrot Zionist rumors which aim to create confusion.

IOF troops had earlier claimed wounding at least two Palestinian resistance fighters in an armed clash which took place to the east of the central Gaza Strip.

Hebrew radio reported that the IOF foiled an attempt by four Palestinian resistance fighters to plant an explosive device next the security fence near Kissufim.

The radio also reported that Israeli occupation war planes and tanks shelled the area before sending troops to comb the area.

Local Palestinian sources confirmed armed clashes between a group of resistance fighters, who fired an RPG at an occupation army jeep, and IOF troops on Friday morning and that the IOF responded by shelling Palestinian homes to the east of Maghazi refugee camp.

Unconfirmed reports of 2 dead after Israeli shelling in Gaza

Gaza – Ma'an –

Israeli occupation forces shelled an area east of the Al-Maghazi Refugee Camp on Monday, hitting the central Gaza Strip region with several artillery shells in at least three barrages, witnesses said. Unconfirmed Israeli media reports said two Palestinians were killed.

Camp residents said the shells were mostly landing in the Abu Hamam area, and said the hits began at approximately 9 am.

An Israeli occupation forces spokeswoman alleged the fire was the response of an army unit near the Kissufim military base, south of the Al-Maghazi camp, to an attempt by armed men who were "identified detonating an explosive device" near the border fence that she said was "targeting soldiers." After soldiers heard an explosion nearby, they responded, she said.

The army did not identify a direct hit, she said, and noted that no soldiers had been injured.

A report in the Israeli daily Haaretz cited Palestinian sources as saying two Gaza men were killed in the attack. The reports could not be confirmed by Ma'an or the Israeli military.

Medical sources at Al-Aqsa Hospital said they have not yet received any injured residents.

One killed in Thursday violence, four injured

An exchange of fire in Gaza's Johur Al-Deek area south of Gaza City led to the death of one man, said by the Israeli military to be Faris Ahmed Jaber, 26, and the injury of a second man they said was involved in planning attacks on Israel.

The two were allegedly preparing an attack on the Israeli occupation forces, that came on the heels of an earlier projectile launch confirmed by sources in Gaza but not publicly claimed by any group.

Sources said a militant group fired on a congregation of Israeli military vehicles, who responded and fired toward the source.

The Israeli fire injured three school girls on their way to class. The sisters, Afaf Ismail Al-Tarabin, 13, and her sisters Ahlam, 11, and Muna, five, were admitted to the Al-Shuhada Hospital in Gaza City.

According to a report from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, several homes were also damaged.
