Haniya Breaks Fast with a Gaza Typical Impoverished Family Ma'an, August 21, 2010 The elected Prime Minister of the Palestinian government in Gaza, Ismail Haniya, joined a family in Gaza City for Iftar, the meal that breaks the Ramadan fast, on 20 August 2010. The eight-member family lives in a home less than twenty square meters in size with no ventilation or windows. The parents sleep in the same room with their six children. Following the meal, prepared by the family, aides said Haniya instructed them to provide emergency aid to the family, including a fan for the home, food, and supplies for the younger children. The father of the family was recruited for a government ministry position, officials said. Editor's Note: This is a typical impoverished Palestinian family in Gaza Strip, which has been placed under brutal Israeli siege, embargo, and sanctions, a strict regime of starving, impoverishing, and humiliating the Palestinian people in Gaza for no other reason than subjugation to Israeli tyranny. The Israeli siege started when Palestinians elected Hamas as their government in 2006, as the resistance organization refused to agree to the Israeli conditions of recognition and acceptance of Israeli theft of Palestinian lands and denial of Palestinian inalienable rights. The siege could not have been sustained without support from Egypt, the EU, and the US, all of whom have participated in the starvation, humiliation, and impoverishment of the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip.
