An officer was killed and two policemen were wounded in two separate incidents near Falluja, a police source said.

“Unknown gunmen opened fire on a police captain inside his car on the Baghdad-Falluja road, eastern Falluja, killing him instantly and damaging his car,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“A roadside bomb went off near a police vehicle patrol in Jabiel region, eastern Falluja, injuring two policemen and damaging their car,” the source said.

Falluja, Anbar province, lies 45 km west of Baghdad.

Police officer survives assassination attempt in Salah al-Din

SALAH AL-DIN / Aswat al-Iraq:

A police officer survived an attempt on his life by a bomb blast on Thursday in al-Shurqat district, a police source said.

“A bomb, stuck to the vehicle of Colonel Ali Dakheel, from al-Shurqat police station, went off in al-Sahel al-Aysar region, injuring two of his guards,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He did not give more details.

Al-Shurqat is 100 km north of Tikrit, the capital of Salah al-Din, which lies 175 km north of Baghdad.

4 rockets hit U.S. camp in Diwaniya

DIWANIYA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Four Katyusha rockets hit U.S. camp ECHO in Diwaniya on Wednesday, according to an army source.

“Camp ECHO, 3 km west of Diwaniya, came under four Katyusha rockets, but no information were obtained about casualties or losses,” the source, who declined to have his name mentioned, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“Police started investigation on the incident,” he added.

The source did not give further details.

Diwaniya lies 180 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.

2 corpses found in Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Two corpses of young men were found in eastern Mosul on Wednesday, according to a security source.

“Policemen found on Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 11) two bodies of young men in al-Tahrir neighborhood, eastern Mosul,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He did not give more details.

Mosul, the capital of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad.

Gunmen kill hospital director in Baghdad

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq:

Unknown gunmen killed on Wednesday the director of the al-Ilwiya Hospital in Baghdad in her house in central the city, and they took away money and golden items from the house.

“The gunmen broke into the house of Dr. Intisar Mohammed Ali in al-Arasat neighborhood of central Baghdad, and opened fire on her leaving her dead,” a local security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He noted that the gunmen were able to escape to an unknown place after they took away money and golden items from the house.

5 soldiers killed, 3 injured in blast in Diala

DIALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

Five Iraqi army soldiers were killed on Wednesday and three others wounded when explosives and a number of roadside bombs went off inside a house northeast of Baaquba city.

“An armed group trapped an Iraqi army force that was raiding a house today at dawn in the al-Saadiya district, 155 km northeast of Baaquba,” a local security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He noted that the armed group used explosives and roadside bombs to detonate the house, killing five soldiers and wounding three others.

The source did not mention further details.

Baaquba, the capital city of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad.

1 soldier killed, 1 civilian injured in 2 attacks in Baghdad

One Iraqi army soldier was killed and one civilian wounded when a sticky bomb went off in western Baghdad, while three mortar shells hit al-Karada neighborhood in the center of the city without causing any casualties.

“A sticky bomb attached to a civilian car driven by an Iraqi army soldier went off last night in al-Jameaa neighborhood, western Baghdad, killing the soldier a wounding a civilian who was passing by,” a local police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency on Wednesday.

“Last night, three mortar shells hit al-Karada neighborhood, central Baghdad, leaving no casualties,” the source added.

He did not mention further details.

2 killed, 8 wounded as explosions continue in Baghdad

Two civilians were killed and eight others were wounded in two explosions in southwestern Baghdad, a security source said on Tuesday.

“Two bombs went off simultaneously near al-Bayaa-Sidiya intersection, southwestern Baghdad, on Tuesday (Aug. 10) , killing two civilians and injuring eight,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The blasts damaged a number of nearby civilian vehicles and buildings,” the source added.

3 blasts kill 2, injure 13 in Baghdad

Two civilians were killed and 13 were wounded in three explosions in southwestern Baghdad on Tuesday, according to a security source.

“Three explosions went off simultaneously in Eshreen street in al-Bayaa region, southwestern Baghdad, killing two civilians and injuring 13 and damaging a number of nearby buildings and stores,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The wounded were rushed to the nearby al-Yarmouk hospital for treatment,” he added.

Sahwa commander killed, 2 of his guards injured in Hilla

On Tuesday unknown gunmen killed the commander of Sahwa (Awakening) fighters north of Hilla city.

“Unknown gunmen opened fire targeting the Sahwa commander and two of his guards,” a local security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He noted that the attack took place when the Sahwa commander was standing before his house in the Jurf al-Sakhar area, north of Hilla.

“Two of the Sahwa commander’s guards were wounded in the attack,” the source added.

Hilla, the capital city of Babel province, lies 100 km south of Baghdad.

1 cop killed, 5 others injured in blast in Falluja

One policeman was killed on Tuesday and five others were wounded when a roadside bomb went off north of Falluja city.

“The blast targeted an Iraqi police patrol at the al-Saqlawiya district, north of Falluja,” a local police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He did not mention further details, but noted that the blast damaged one of the patrol’s vehicles.

Falluja, the biggest city of the Anbar province, lies 45 km west of Baghdad.
