Israeli Occupation Forces Raid Southern Gaza Strip, in Khan Younis

 release "unlawful combatant"

 [ 25/04/2010 - 11:40 AM ]

GAZA, (PIC)--

Israeli occupation forces (IOF) raided southern Gaza Strip on Sunday east of Khan Younis and bulldozed cultivated land lots.

PIC reporter said that IOF troops mounting a number of armored vehicles escorted the huge bulldozers in their destruction streak, noting that the soldiers opened intensive fire at nearby citizens' homes but no casualties were reported.

IOF troops almost daily raid Gaza border areas, damage crops, and prevent farmers from tending to their lands.

Meanwhile, the higher committee in support of prisoners said that Tarek Al-'Aisawi, from Gaza city, was released from Israeli custody on Sunday and that he was on his way to Erez crossing.

The committee's spokesman Riyadh Al-Ashqar said in a press release that Aisawi who was detained on 8/2/2004 has completed his five-year imprisonment term on 15/9/2009 but the Israeli occupation government (IOG) retained him behind bars under the so-called "unlawful combatant" decree.

Aisawi was held for seven months until the IOA finally decided to release him today.

Ashqar said that the number of "unlawful combatants" from Gaza Strip who are held in IOA jails was thus reduced to eight all of whom had completed various prison terms and were held without trial or charge for indefinite periods.

He called for international pressure on the IOA to set free those detainees and to stop working with this "oppressive law", which puts the captive on trial twice for the same charge in violation of relevant international agreements.
