Israeli Occupation Forces Fire at Peaceful Protest in Gaza and Hebron

Three Wounded After Army Opened Fire At Peaceful Protest Near Gaza

Wednesday April 14, 2010 12:55 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC & Agencies

Local sources reported Wednesday that three Palestinians were shot and wounded after the Israeli army opened fire at a nonviolent protest east of Al Shuja'iya in Gaza city.
The protest against what Israel calls the “security belt” in Gaza was organized by the Popular Committee Against the Belt, as Israel is using Palestinian areas behind the fence as buffer zones.

Dr. Mu'awiya Hassanain, head of the Emergency Department at the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, reported that the three residents suffered light-to-moderate wounds and were moved to the Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City.

Walid Al-Awad, member of the Political Bureau of the Palestinian People Party, stated that hundreds of residents protested near the fence carrying Palestinian flags and chanting slogans against the illegal Israeli measures.

Al Awad added that several armored vehicles were seen near the border while military helicopters and drones hovered over the area.

On Tuesday, the committee held its weekly protest against the Israeli violations and the so-called security zone Israel is enforcing on the expense of the residents and their lands.

Several Palestinians wounded in Hebron clashes

Wednesday April 14, 2010 03:22 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC & Agencies

Three Palestinians were wounded by rubber-coated bullets fired by the Israeli occupation army at a group of Palestinian protesters on Tuesday, while several other residents received medical treatment after inhaling gas fired by the soldiers in Beit Ummar town, north of the southern West Bank city of Hebron.

The clashes took place near an illegal settlement outpost after the settlers threatened to shoot and killed resident Ahmad Hashim, while he was farming his land.

The illegal Israeli settlers fired rounds of live ammunition into the air and attacked the resident in an attempt to force him out of his land. A section of the illegal outpost is installed on his land.

Later on, students organized a protest demanding Israel to halt the attacks against Palestinian farmers and allow them to farm their lands.

The students, members of the Student’s Committee of the National Committee Against the Wall, wanted to help Hashim but the army fired gas bombs and rubber coated bullets; three were wounded and several students received treatment by medics after inhaling gas fired by the soldiers.
